Remember the Intel Fan boys saying the FX9590 220w TDP needed a nuclear reactor to power and here we are with CPU's that consume 1.5x more power. What do you need for these, fictional cold fusion reactors? Whats even more worrying is the type of cooling required to keep it running optimally. I guess on the plus side with a open loop you can boil eggs and bacon while applications run so not only do you heat the house and maybe your neighbors too but you have a bacon and egg butty on the go also.

Well it's over 2 years old, but it can't be dead when it's working pretty well ;)

So do you want to compare in some benchmarks? Bring it on :)
I have 3900x too, so you don't need to post 3900x benchmarks ;)

Post some gamebenchmarks, and I will try to beat them. Are you ready?

Something tells me you don't want to :p

PS: For me with 2080ti I didn't fond a game yet that is faster on my overclocked 3900x. 3800c16 memory on 3900x too. Strange? I don't think so. Pleace help me find something else than boring Cinebench to benchmark...

I'm not at fanboy of any brand or color. I'm a performancefanboy :D

Not testet TRX yet, but it looks like the performance is behind my overclocked 7980xe in most scenarios but pure rendering due to more cores on TRX.

    Perfect here in Norway :D
My 4 computers do most of the heating in my house. F@H loves gpu's and cores, so does the cold climate here :D

Just a bit of curiosity here on my part...do you know if heating your home with computers is efficient in terms of electricity in vs heat thrown out, when compared to conventional electrical heaters. I mean obviously you're actually getting some number crunching done at the same time which is a bonus, but I'm talking about the actual amount of electricity in vs the amount of heat thrown out....is it any less efficient at that conversion of energy than regular electrical heaters? If PC heating is just as efficient as regular heating then I may turn my heating down a bit and crunch some numbers for a good cause.

I wouln't call $500 mainstream but it's certainly "enthusiast mainstream" Otherwise you'd have to take into account that the 9900K(SF) isn't mainstream when it;s the ONLY chip the Intel fans care about because "it's the king" and everyone seems to have one.

My 1950X is about two years old but I consider it basically dead. My 3950X outperforms it by a whopping 30% in grid computing with 50 watts less. Technology moves fast, and two year old technology is basically ancient. :p

If we ware back in 2010's that would be true but today not so much. 1950x is still vastly superior to many cpus today. I would even dare to say its a 16c/32t beast. ;)

I have 1950x too in my ubuntu server. I'm not happy that Threadripper gen 3 not working with x399 :(

7980xe is still top performer, 1950x not so much compared to 3950x. Even my 3900x beats 1950x in everything exept programs that like quad channel memory :p 3600c16 memory works with my 1950x, so that is nice.

Pretty crazy that an ancient cpu like 7980xe still kicking ass with enough cooling; Read delidded and custom watercooling :p

Can you push it to 4.9ghz? 845watts is beyond insane. Still though it IS impressive performance and overclocking potential for an older system.

would be kinda funny if true, reminds me of AMDs 5ghz watercooled FX heater, how the tales have turned...

    stock 280Watts
    pbo mode 315Watts
    auto-oc ryzen master 347Watts

not only I managed to make it draw 840Watt in my HX1200i PSU but I actually upgraded to custom watercooling from an AIO because it couldn't manage the heat (90°->76°C)
even with a 55mm thick rad D5 pump etc...the idle is still at 50+°C which means the rad is constantly outputing heat unlike for example a 9900k which is cold at idle (something Intel are better than AMD)

air cooling ahahah that's a good one
    NH-U9 TR4-SP3 : Max TDP 180W, no overclocking (not 250W TDP compatible)
be quiet! Dark Rock Pro TR4 : Max TDP 250W

I won't upgrade until i see some real cool features get introduced. Like DDR5 and PCI-E 4.0 on a new chipset. So probs Tiger Lake-S

    So the $500 9900K and $650 9900KS aren't mainstream either yes?

1000W guys as per original article from computerbase. 10980XE burns 700W at manual overclocks. :D
And it would still be slower than the 3960X...

Don't ever use that shitty site please. Just compare an i3 9100 and the i9 9900. They have prioritized single core performance to the point where multicore doesn't count at all.

No they are not. Mainstream is not just required chipset. Is the whole system.
you do not run a 500$ cpu with a 30$ cooler and 50$ memories.
Mainstream would be the cpu that people buy most in the diy build or pre made computers. The one that is mainly in computer.
Now do not tell me that because there are 2000$ cpus everyone has a 9900k or a 3900x because they are just 500$.
