I seriously hope this isn't the real product - 380 watt TDP FFS!

This is especially worrying since Intel advertises the TDP based on the base clock. What's the turbo TDP? 500W? Is this really the best that Intel can do to counter (the 280 watt peak usage) Threadripper?

Looks like the OLD x299 plattform will live a few years more :D

Intel is fighting with what they have even its abomination that pulls 500W with some extreme cooling. Its sad where they end up to.

Yes it's sad, but my 2 years old delidded 7980xe is still kicking some ass @ 4,7ghz all core :D 49ns memorylatency, so it's faster then max overclocked 3900x/3950x in everything. Looks like I'm not upgrading the cpu for a few years :)

Didnt you payed 2000$ for that chip two years ago? Thats just sad again man, sry.

The core i9-7980xe might be an excellent 18 core CPU, but i don't think that you can compare a 2000€ HEDT-platform processor - still selling for ca. 1250€ - with a mainstream 500€ (Ryzen 3900X, 12 core) or 800€ (Ryzen 3950X, 16 core) one. In the same class (HEDT) on AMD side you would find a 24 core (one year old) TR-2970WX for around 1000€ or (a shiny new) TR-3960X for 1400€, or a 32 core TR-2990WX for 1599€... All those should be faster, if someone needs as much multithreaded performance. Considering that TR-1950X (16 core) came out at the same time as your intel CPU for ca. 1000€ and the also 16 core TR-2950X a year later for 900€ (currently 700-800€), we can see how wonderful it is to have competition in all segments. ;)

    Completely fake.

The structure of the chip that fits in LGA2066 is 24 blocks, in a 6x4 mesh, from which 6 are I/O nodes and the rest are cores.
It's impossible to have more than 18 cores on HCC structure.

The XCC has 6x6 mesh (36), which is why that one tops at 28 cores (+8 I/O nodes) and impossible to have more with their current designs.
The XCC silicon however is much bigger and requires LGA-3647, which is a 6-channel memory socket.

    https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/intel/microarchitectures/skylake_(server)
Read here and stop believing in made up "leaks".

In order to have more cores on any of these sockets, Intel needs a complete redesign of the CPU, which at this point it doesn't yet exist (maybe only on their design papers or in the lab)

    @wavetrex

I had planned to say the same but see you have it covered. This is a flake. However the Comet Lake 10-core is on the way and will have large PL2 numbers think around 300 watts.

This is for me the usual firestarter.
Intel thread for intel cpus, having to report that your current cpu is faster than an AMD cpu no one mentioned.

And surprise, there is no reason to update an intel 7980xe for a few years, overclocked or not, with tweaked memory or not.

The few people that needed to update it probably jumped on the first 32 core cpu available already. The other do not have reason.

You are on a dead platform next Amd desktop cpu will make your HEDT old and slow
but as always enjoy your system. Sry for grammar.

And this is another nonsense: dead platform.
A dead platform is for example a platform that does not have sata3 or does not have nvme. Or DDR3.
All the rest is perfectly alive and kicking.

Also LOL at mainstream 3900x for 500$.
Mainstream? mainstream is the 3600x, 3700x.

All the rest is top notch stuff for people with enough money to have fun.

I don't know rick lol, a 3950x stock would just kick that CPU ass. And doing CCX OC at 4.45 and 4.35 ghz while costing less and having 2 cores less it would say HI to your CPU s**t on it hahahaha:D while also using less power and costing waaaayyyyyyy less not to mention one is a Mainstream CPU and yours is a HDTE cpu. You basically doing everything you can to get the most of that CPU while these ryzen will do it with no extra crap like that where you can actually frack your CPU xD oh and at same clocks or stock the 3900x or 3950 would have better single core performance. so yea your cpu is obsolete

    https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i9-7980XE-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-3800X/m352013vs4047

3800X is running circles around your CPU, even the 3600 seems better (yea xd userbenchmark ... xd)

Let's be honest, your CPU is not better than the 3950X in almost any world and word
