"Over at CES AMD just announced the Radeon RX 5600 XT, which will be available starting the 21st of this month at a price of 279 USD for the reference models."

So, I gather that the card depicted in the third photo is the $279 USD reference model? Available directly from AMD? Looks somewhat similar to the PowerColor Red Dragon model. (I believe the fan-diameter on the Dragon is larger.)

A $279 price-tag on the reference model totally implies that certain AIB models will likely cross the $300 USD threshold. (I'd pretty much bet the house the ASUS ROG Strix will, because ASUS.) Now, I may have been mildly intoxicated at the time, but I'm pretty sure I saw some RX 5700 jammies for sale over the holidays for about $319.99 USD. While I think $249 ~ $259 for the reference model would have been a better starting-point, perhaps AMD is trying to thread the needle, price-wise, between having stock to sell and empty shelves with regard to 7nm production capacity.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. I suspect the 5600 XT and Vega 56 will be very close.

This is exactly what I want to know.
After that, I am going to buy one or another.

The 5600 XT is priced the same as a 1660 Ti. Knowing that's the competition, unless AMD really drops the ball, the 5600 XT should ideally be slightly faster.

The 1660 Ti is already very similar to the Vega 56. Depends on the game of course. If that's the mark to beat, I would personally be disappointed if it's not a little bit faster.

5600xt will replace both Vega 56 & 64. It will replace those old fine wine gpus. Period.

Only Radeon VII is replaced by the 5700XT.

Simple 5700 is the game maker between all.

It is far from hard to know 5600XT's performance in advance. All it takes is to take 5700, downclock GPU a bit and downclock memory to match bandwidth of projected card.
(GPU is same die with same amount of locked out CUs, just IMC is cut by 25%. But it looks like AMD uses faster memory to compensate. So bandwidth is only 14% lower.)

But there is the 2K argument.
Why AMD didn't label the 5600XT a 2K gaming card, just a premium 1080p gaming card?
They know the capabilities of their silicon, so there is something there.
Vegas can render 2K pretty well, but at higher power consumption.

That wouldn't be enough to sway me. I'd still buy a 1660 Ti before I got a Vega 56.

    Hm
so it's the successor to the RX 580/590?

I guess it's probably the same Performance as my Vega 56 but not that energy hungry :)

    2K? What's that to you?

If, somehow, you meant 1440p, then the 5700 series cards are meant for that. Don't believe it? Look...

Like i said few days ago 5600 will be high refresh rate 1080p card, there for "ultimate" 1080p label. That memory configuration can actually hurt the card, navi can be bandwidth starved. Vega can perform better at 1440p, we'll see.

These needed 8GB of VRAM. 6GB of VRAM was already a problem in some titles with the GTX1000 series. Seriously, games are HUGE these days, get with the program nvidia and AMD.

Anyone saying the 5600xt is priced well because it competes with the 1660ti is forgetting even Nvidia fanboys say the 1660ti is over priced and unnecessary when the 1660super is $220 and only ~5% slower. The 5600xt’s value may be slightly better than a card that presents horrible value.

That's true, probably why NVidia is price dropping the 2060 to $299.

True the 1660 pretty much ended the Ti. It'll be a year in March since I got mine for $279 but I feel I got my money's worth.

Despite all these rumours and whatnot, from my humble 1060 I will try to go to 3060 or even 3050Ti or something. These cards will gonna be a true pinnacle. I have the same confidence when I went from 960 series to 1060. If there is gonna be such a difference will worth it. I hope for a 3060 300€. Up to 350€. And if this has even better Ray Traycing, a welcome bonus in case I can play on low at 1080p without a significant penalty. Especially with half the power consumption and double the performance.

And by the way, about the argument for the 5700, it's the card that seriously have the best competition.

Costs about the same as I paid for my rx480 8GB many years ago, and this time around it's with -2GB VRAM. A bit...lame.

AMD slides showed 5600xt is 15-20% faster than 1660ti/super. It will end up competing with 2060 6gb.
