Successor to Intel LGA 1200 will be LGA 1700, another processor socket for Desktop CPUs

By the looks of it, this should definitely help with heat reduction.

 

AM4 was introduced with top dog as 1800X.
Platform can use 3900X which has double performance and 3950X which is even better.

So, your intended argument is weak. AM4 socket got huge performance uplift since it came. And that means 1st adopters and even users of Zen+ have option to get quite some boost in performance. At time AM4 is really EOL, I can easily buy best chip for it and get 2.5x current performance... Just by paying for CPU.

When you went for intel's socket and got best available CPU for given socket, that was it. End of story. Next upgrade equals new board too.

Not if AMD keeps at their current pace. I replaced by 1800X with a 3950X late last year and increased performance by 2.5X while using the same X470 board (I run grid computing apps which make use of all cores). Long upgrade cycles made sense when Intel was releasing incremental updates year after year with no additional core count. With AMD, it makes sense to upgrade regularly.

Which X570 board is not compatible with older CPUs? X370/B350 board should also work, provided there are BIOS updates by the manufacturer. Maybe it's just me but I haven't heard of too many issues with AM4 compatibility.

 

1700 pins are certainly better than 1200, could be used for more PCIe lanes, power, or memory channels (i.e. like LGA 1567 with 4-channel memory).
Then why not just use LGA 2066?

 

X570 does not support 1000-series Ryzen, officially due to size concerns; for X370/B350 the decision to support 3000-series needs to be made by the motherboard manufacturer.
OTOH X470/B450 shall support everything from 1000 to 3000 series.

That said, AMD firmware has grown bulky over the years - they even added support for Intel XMP 2.0 memory profiles in 2017 with a BIOS update...

 

I´m in the same boat. I have a Z270 board paired with a 7600K, it´s a nice combo but it would be great if i could upgrade to a 8600/9600K but i can´t because Intel´s greed knows no limits. So because i´m forced by Intel to buy a new board to upgrade the CPU, i´ll probably buy a Ryzen CPU.
