AMD is working on a new driver update that will be bringing a new feature called BOOST. How do we know this? Well, AMD accidentally posted details in their current drivers, you know the rotating conte...

I don't know, this looks like a useless feature to me. I like my games looking good.
This might be a good thing for TN panel evangelists who can clearly see difference between 218 and 240FPS though.

I think this can be a very handy and innovative feature if implemented correctly.

Sounds like a good idea for lower performing graphic cards. I guess I'll never use it though.

I would totally love that feature because my 5700Xt cant quite run everything at 4k but with dynamic scaling it could work for the most part.

Isn't that what consoles have been doing for a while, dynamically altering the resolution to maintain fps?

IF this is done perfectly it could be revolutionary. 'Cause, when there is motion, the actual clarity of the image (or motion resolution) is more dependent on the number of fps (and your screen refresh rate of course) than your actual screen resolution. But for this to actually work you need a very clever algorithm balancing the amount of down-scaling/frame-boost with the actual velocity of the motion.

I'm curious if we can expect a bit more performance out of Vega and Polaris?
Or in general a bit more optimization?

    Exactly.

Guys remember how "motion blur" became a popular after effect on many games some years ago? So we are rendering full resolution frames and then spending more cpu/gpu to apply some artificial blur over it..... Ofc lower res is NOT equal to motion blur but point it we don't need full resolution if we are going to blur it afterwards anyway.

I doubt it. Amd is moving on optimizing rdna and upcoming rdna2. It was a good run. Vega and Polaris aged much better than their Pascal counterparts.

Yah but i really hope they optimize their opengl stack some time, friends with nvidia gpus getting much better perormance with the same cpu/memory in modded minecraft (tech based stuff, huge bases/much automation) .. than i do :/. I have about 40-50fps with noticeable drops and they have 70-80 fps with a 1060 or 1070 running much smoother and more consistent

The game is cpu limited, I'm getting the same performance out of a RX480 as well as a Vega 56

(i know opengl is old / legacy but that's just my wishes / hopes )

In other games i'm really happy with amd cards

While your are also right, this isn't exactly what I wanted to say. In other word what I meant is : if there is a lot of FAST motion on screen you get more detail/clarity at 1080p 240fps/hz than 4k 60fps/hz (your screen need to be able to push at the same pace) of course when there is NO motion, 4k offer better clarity and yes "motion blur" effect need to be off for this to be valid.

I suppose the new "boost" does the same thing HiAlgo Boost does for years.

I think those people already do the sensible thing and lower their effects settings when they want better performance. Deliberately running lower resolution and upscaling content when you can run it at higher res. is baffling. Why do people want junk like this or DLSS?

Oh, yes, sorry, only the first line was a response to your message. The rest was my own unrelated comment on the topic :p

By accident lol ok, if you say so. It's Christmas and a leakage this positive is a smart marketing strategy.

So AMD is going to "dynamically" gimp IQ in favor of performance in driver and call it a feature

I would love to see a fixed opengl driver for AMD, so we can have the same performance level of Nvidia counterparts in emulators and X-plane. That would be the best Christmas gift they could get to its clients.

    IQ?

I think this feature could do wonders. during movement, you need speed and all the frames to follow what is happening with the lowest input lag. one is incapable of seeing ever beautiful detail, so going with like 80% scaling might even be unnoticeable during mouseflicks. once fluid movement stops, you can continue to appreciate the beauty of every single pixel
