Agree to disagree, it depends on what you're looking to achieve. I tihnk contact shadowing is terrible in this game on max settings, objects don't feel grounded enough, close up show clothing without shadows and all. Using the unlocked console you can make the AO tighter and improve that in literrally 2 lines at a minimum performance cost.

You can also change the shadow transition setting of spotlights (heavily used) to make spotlight shadows more defined for a longer distance. Don't have a screenshot of it right now but can be massive diff.

 

^ and what's the difference there? I'm not trying to say you're wrong it's just... I don't see it because I'm not sure what to look for.
Can you point out the difference which improves by alot? What's different? The shadow on his hair and his hood looks like it could be just from a slightly different position of the character in the scene.

 

look at the belt on the chest the contrast is popping far more in the bottom pic, so its the midranges i would guess.

 

Sure, major issue i have with the game on epic preset (kind of issue i didn't find with Gears 5 for instance) is the lack of contact shadowing, they're not using the engine to its full potential. What i'm doing here is abusing AO as contact shadowing with a high granularity.

The goal is to fight against light leaking, and missing contact shadows, i've highlighted a couple spot to look for here (i should add other shots as the out of focus environment is also heaily impacted) :

Yes now I do see it and I know what you mean... luckily these things weren't that big, I would not have noticed. But it is quite clear when you see it next to each other. That's why I like Hilbert's comparison shots with the sliders, it's easy for old people like me to see

Like I said, can't wait to replay this game with the right settings / mods / filters

 

i wish we could use those sliders thingy more easily, really handy for those comparison stuff !

Also i'm using 27" monitors, makes it even more obvious to spot !

 

Yes true, sitting on a laptop screen here, not at home with my 27" screen, but after you marked the differences it was quite clear too

I think the easiest way to do comparisons is to take two identical screenshots (with different settings) and then open them in two tabs, then simply switch between the tabs.
