    Hi,

My windows 10 (1909) becomes almost not responding when MSI after burner is installed (4.6.2 beta 4).
I use Nvidia drivers 441.20 standard on a RTX 2080 super.
Note that the issue was already present with previous release of windows and few previous Nvidia drivers.

The strange thing is that even when MSI afterburner is not open (not starting during windows startup),
the issue persists. So this may be due to a file change or pointer to a file.
    Same without the server installed.

I never had problem with the GTX 1070.

I was looking in the device manager for tasks using CPU or so, nothing appears.

Any idea where to look at? I want to use MSI afterburner ^^

Edit: Same behavior with MSI afterburner 4.6.2 final.

I got same issue on my previous platform (x99 5930k than my new one z390/i9 9900 ks) using the same graphic card (INNO3D GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER iCHILL X3 ULTRA).

    Edit2: I replaced the rtx2080 super by a gtx 1060 3 GB,
and Windows behaves well with MSI afterburner.
Same Nvidia version, same display port, same screen g-sync on.

So this is really related to the RTX 2080 super fileset or so.
Is there anyone here using an RTX2080 super and MSI afterburner?

Nobody is using RTX series cards with AB of course, heh.
AB install in NOT altering system files, doing so without AB running is ABSOLUTELY unreal. That's the only comment I'll leave here, I don't want to spend my single weekend on absolutely useless debates again, sorry.

So this is not file related.
Note that 2 months old Nvidia drivers were working fine with the RTx2080 super and msi afterburner, I don't recall which version (I think it was when branch jumped from 3xx to 4xx).
Have a nice week end ^^

might be a defect with the card.
or one of the mining risers.

    clear system cmos
    clear secure boot cache

attach a msinfo32 txt output or post it to pastebin, compatibility with other drivers is a potential vector

9900's have had pcie issues with 20x0 cards that might be a bigger issue once sensoring of the pcie bus is active.

The cards works great for weeks without MSI.
Again, even with AB closed issue remains.

There is no rise, this is my game pc.
And read before posting, I already changed the platform with same effect, why are you talking about clear cmos?

as for the past of nvidia info:

Then theres a mutex issue on the system occurring between AB's driver and some other driver active on the system that isn't safe to use with MSI AB.

the issue remains after closing MSI AB because some aspect of system bus is stuck in an incorrect state.

    did you install inno3d's TuneIt?
is MSI AB's low level driver set to User Mode or Kernel?

This is even after a reboot.
When AB did not start yet(that is why I was refering to file set, but AB owner told me he's not touching them).
Could it be due to other files installed with AB (the visio studio files from Microsoft?)

Unwinder, is it possible to install AB without the installer by just copying the exe files and AB files without touching other files?

    no.

the Afterburner driver is loaded on demand (ie, the start of Afterburner itself)

I have had one similar experience, through my own negligence where i started RTSS without restarting the machine to replace one of the in use hooking dll's, do you have RTSS set to auto start?

I said in the first post this occurs without the server as well.

In the mean time I will find the last Nvidia drivers that was working with AB (as RTX2080 super is not old, should be fast to find out).

well i don't care to continue this further, there are no issues with AB and 1909 / 2080 super's or current drivers - and you're basically stonewalling by not posting msinfo32.

Which section of msinfo32 do you want,
i'll be glad to export it.

    I can see those crashes when I tested with AB;

I will un-install the Harmony remote controller software to see it that helps.

Installer is not doing anything but copying AB's own files to AB application's folder and installing VC++ redistributables from .\Redist subfolder. It is not touching any other system or driver related files.

wow great, un-installing Harmony remote controller software
    solves the issue, so happy.
    Sorry for the bothering.
I indeed changed my remote hardware few weeks ago, and this is probably
the root cause I had with AB.

Maybe a clash with the USB type C port of the RTX 2080 super,
as there is no such ports on the gtx 1060.

    Thanks for the support astyanax

Note: I had crashes Yesterday as I was testing the overclocking of my i9 9900 KS
for the first time, ignore them, it is rock stable now.

assuming the harmony software installs a filter to the usb stack, it may have a compatibility issue with the controller on the nvidia card.

Indeed, the remote control is updated via the usb port (to upload the preferences).
