I had my doubts about a 64c/128t Threadripper but apparently I was wrong. I'm a bit surprised because I can't imagine such a CPU being affordable, especially since their 64c Epycs seem to be selling well. Even a 32c Zen2 TR is more than what Intel can keep up with in this market segment. So in my eyes, the 64c TR is just cannibalizing AMD's own sales.

well not everyone wants to have a server motherboard.
Probably the server motherboards for epyc are highly tweaked for density.
Also this probably won't be affordable.
Let's imagine that new TR 24 and 32 cores have similar prices to what they had before for the 2xxx line.
The 64c version can have ANY price, does not have to be just around double the 32 core version.

Jeez AMD is going all out. Good luck competing with that Intel.

Given how long the list is I am hoping there are options in that list for x399 motherboards!

Quite a few more cores than the old Intel 3960x cpu :p

You should keep in mind that Intel will soon be cutting their HEDT prices in half. A 64 core chip would be a great way to up the ante, so to speak. A 64 core CPU for $1700 along with a 32 core CPU for $1000 would restore AMD's strong value proposition against the upcoming Cannon Lake-X. AMD also doubled the core count on their consumer products so it's not outrageous that they would do the same with their HEDT platform.

Still, I have some doubts about its viability so I'll believe it when I see it.
