have you ever wondered why they don't include a 7700k in ryzen processor gaming reviews?

it destroys every one of them....just like 8700k, 9900k does!......the only Intel processor they show is an i5 "skylake" ?....WTF?

 

its not fair to compare quad core to an eight core ryzen.

It is a big debade if they are quad cores or 8 cores the bulldozers , but as law is concerned they are not 8cores thats why the class action lawsuit went against AMD

 

I already used an i5-10210u, it ran really nice for a slim, low power laptop.

Progress is good, but my perfectly fine 4790K is really looking a bit dated now. I already want to build a Ryzen system, which would be my 1st AMD rig since '07. This i3 news may eventually push me irrationally over the edge and I'll submit to the urge to build.

Well it's good intel is moving the old i7 series down to i3 territory, because quad-core sure looks like i3 territory compared to what we have now. I got sick of being ripped off by intel so I bought AMD because they had a better deal. It'd be different if the intel was 'just good enough' and the AMD was 'not good enough' to run the games or software that I wanted, but in content creation, the AMD actually blows the comparable-by-price intel processor out the door and blows away some of the wall around the door frame with it. It was a little different when you had to buy expensive RAM to give Ryzen a chance, but that's not really needed anymore because now you're putting 3000+ Mhz RAM in any system you build these day.

It's time to upgrade, bud. If you run things that take advantage of the cores - or monstrous cache memory, you'll be glad you did. I 'spoilered' the stuff below so that it doesn't throw a book onto the forums (out of respect for others)...

I made the jump to a 3700x, left it on stock, Asrock Phantom Gaming 4 x570 board, cheapest motherboard I could get, 2x 16gb sticks of 3000mhz Micron memory that was on-sale (cheapest, just set XMP in BIOS!), stuck it in a used Fractal full-tower case I got at local-pickup from an ebay 'buy it now' best offer price I low-balled for 50$, and a Seasonic power supply. Picked up an NVME 1TB Inland brand drive as Samsung was double the price. Entirely on a budget, not counting the used video card (RX 480 8gb), the system was around 850~860$ or so all-together. Most stuff I got from Microcenter, including the motherboard which was 50$ off when bought with a processor so paid MSRP for CPU + 104.99$ for a brand new x570 motherboard.
If you have a decent clocked 4790k, you'll not gain leaps and bounds in single-core speed unless newer instruction sets are used that you didn't have before, but the multi-core difference will absolutely BLOW AWAY the old system. I'm seeing 2x~5x differences (it took a 6~12 minute ULTRA compression ZIP operation on a 4790k system with 2x sata MLC drive raid 0 down to 45 seconds or less on R7 3700x w/nvme generic brand drive - was cpu-bottle-necked on both system).
Zero boosting issues on release-day BIOS. Zero driver issues. Just plug in a Windows 10 RETAIL ESD number you can purchase off the bay, and you're good to go. Absolutely loving this for content creation, if you just play online competitive high-refresh online FPS games though, maybe a similarly priced intel 8600k/9600k/9700k would be better for your frames per second.
My 4790k system was a let down in overclocking, that's not to say it didn't perform well out of the box ONCE YOU DELIDDED IT, and fed it liquid metal and a 100$ air cooler (I don't do water, I need a reliable system). Couldn't go 100mhz on all core over it's single core 4.4ghz boost clock without overheating even sitting on the desk with a fan blowing on it with no case, let alone in the case. Even at 4.4ghz I had trouble keeping it at 70c and below, it was a PIG. It took 1.25v to get it stable on 4.4ghz all-core and I've been doing this 25 years... never was so let-down in the OC department in just the last 10 years of building a system for that. So no more! The AMD chip will run itself to it's limit as-needed, and if you enable PBO, it'll take it to the power/voltage limits of the chip and give you max clocks if you have aftermarket cooling on it (I didn't turn on PBO here). Don't have to mess with it, and when you're almost 40 and have more important things to throw money at, that's a great thing.
I was going to buy a silicon lottery branded chip here for this, but then I said wait a minute, 100$ for another 100mhz, 150$ for anything more (or something close to that), I could step up to a 3900x (I didn't have availability issues here except sporadically with the 3900x, MicroCenter always has them but you have to drive 4h to get to one.). So the silicon lottery option was out.
So TL-DR, if you have an intel 4xxx system or older, or you have a Skylake system who's OC doesn't please, or is otherwise lack-luster OR you need more cores, go Ryzen 3xxx (not 2xxx!) and you'll be happy you did (unless of course as-above, you only do high-refresh rate competitive gaming online). As a bonus, you won't have to sweat sitting still in the spring and fall when the AC isn't on anymore.
EDIT: almost left out the best part, don't have to worry about which slots or sockets you use on this motherboard... it has enough PCI-E lanes (on this board) to fully utilize it. I wasn't going to spend a penny to have to go through THAT again, that was another nail in intel's coffin with me, I hated I MEAN HATED that on my i7 4xxx Z97 system.

 

With that Big wallet you bought a slower processor?

 

Had a delid 7700k aye, then 2700x to this 3700x, which is miles better.

 

Than a 9900k?......You are a true fanboy...you already have a $1200 GPU....

Why would you skimp on the price now?....Slower?
