If you got cores problem, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 (+1) problems and patched em up.

 

Perfect, now if they also fix the gpu drivers as well, I'll be really happy. The quality control has truly been a mess.

 

ECC memory + encrypted memory support (to stop cold boot attacks) I heard... but that could be just "Ryzen Pro"

 

So something that is already good is going to get better....?!? Another reason to get on AMD's bandwagon.

Going to happen when the 3950x drops I bet.

 

So basically every piece of software affects our CPU's now?
- AGESA
- AMD Chipset software
- Windows 10 software (more so for Intel to mitigate Spectre/etc)

 

Yes. Windows 10 does not affect it directly, but will avoid using certain features.
I watched a talk once where they were explaining the various layer of software between the cpu and the user, and where far more than i remembered from the old AMI bios.

The talk was from the https://www.coreboot.org/ guys and yeah, lot of softwares that you install or not or that you can remove at all are managing your cpu

 

Hasn't that always been the case? Intel has microcode updates - has for decades. Intel's chipset drivers have updated CPU related things in the past. Windows has also had updates and things to mitigate hardware related issues. I'm sure AMD has had equivelents but before Zen my last AMD CPU was a clawhammer - so long ago I don't really remember. I'm sure like they all communicate more frequently now but this kind of thing isn't really new.

 

But with AMD it seems more connected with performance and fixes. I don't remember ever giving new drivers or BIOS updates a second glance unless there was a serious issue, such as a security flaw. I think I prefer active development like with AGESA.

 

And so the Dancing Meme will die and be forgotten...

I really wonder what could possibly be in "100+" enhancements ?

And second... will this apply to older gen mobos, B350, X370?... so far users of these have been lucky ( I got ABBA bios on ASUS X370 ), but who knows for how long these will continue to be supported/improved.

 

AMD Fanbois eating it up, 100+ BUGS thats INSANE, just shows how broken this platform is, if it happened to Intel.....

What about the ROM chip size ?
Will the 16MB ones still suffice or we hit another capacity wall with this one...

I wonder why new motherboards are not built with a full-blown SSD directly on them ( 32GB and up ) to host and allow multiple UEFI versions, memory tests, tools and other software... instead of the tiny EEPROM chips of just megabytes...?

Mobile phone are already doing that for quite a while, the bootloader, OS, repair tools and everything else needed is put on (hidden) partitions on the unified Flash storage.
