Wouldn't it be interesting to compare this new six-core with the old Phenom II 1100T paired with 1600 MHz DDR3 memory and a 2400 to 2600 MHz northbridge overclock on a Asus Crosshair V or an Asus Sabertooth 990FX based board to see how times has changed?

When You lower the core speed on Intel it no longer shines....

So? Every company has it's own aproach.

IPC for Zen 2 definitely has increased. On top of that, games that only take advantage of 6 cores this will have no problem.

Even the i5 9400f is more expensive than this. People forget the pricing is the key here.

You'd have no issues going Coffee Lake or Zen 2 for a few good years.

I saw that @Loophole35 was selling it at the great price but you'll need expensive motherboard and good cooling if you want those clocks he was running it. You have a chance here for the even lower price get a brand new 3600X where you dont need WC and Z board. Think twice before you act.

Yeah to get 5.0Ghz he will need a D15s or a 240mm AIO but on a Hyper 212+ or something 4.8 is very doable. If he can find a z370 prime from ASUS and some 3200 G.Skill RAM those should cost about $220 together.

Hell this will dissipate 160W for $50 thats more than enough to run the 8700k at 5.0Ghz

Hyperthreading and symmetric multithreading are not exactly the same thing. This chip will still do SMT even with hyperthreading disabled because it has six cores so it can run six threads simultaneously and that is SMT. Hyperthreading is one specific form of SMT that refers to running multiple threads on the same core simultaneously.

The bottom line is SMT is not disabled on this chip, hyperthreading is disabled.

Uh what? SMT (Simultaneous multithreading) and Hyperthreading are the same thing. Just having multiple threads doesn't make it SMT enabled.

The term "HyperThreading" is trademarked by Intel. HyperThreading is nothing but a marketing name given to Intel's SMT implementation.

SMT or Simultaneous Multi-Threading refers to the ability of a processor core to execute multiple threads, simultaneously.

You're confusing SMT (Simultaneous Multi-Threading) and SMP (Simultaneous Multi-Processing).

In the case of the Ryzen 5 3500 and 3500X, SMT is disabled (since each core can only execute a single thread)....SMP is not.

Thanks for correcting my brain fart guys.

I have never seen the term SMT used and somehow thought it was SMP.
