Probably wise, I got lucky with mine I suppose. When he was a kitten he would buzz round me for scraps but didnt have any until after we had finished. He always has some (if it isnt curry etc.), he is respected like a person. Since then he realised how it affects him and goes somewhere else when we eat, sort of like its beneath him to beg lol (not that he has to). Then I say "dya want some" or "whassis" (whats this) and he comes running. I use different words for his food or treats, ie "dya want some food/munchies" and "dya want a treat". He understands the difference between each and responds appropriately, whether he does or doesnt want. He doesnt get a treat every day so he knows they are special. This is how I got him to let me pick twigs/leaves/slugs etc out of his fur. I used to get chomped hard if I didnt stop after the first growl, him being of wild stock. So I said "dya wanna treat" while doing it and instantly he let me do what I want hahah. I felt foolish for waiting 4 years before trying that. He isnt allowed to jump up while I am eating and doesnt ever go hunting for food/treats, he is happy to ask or be given. I can leave his treats laying around and they never get touched, yet he knows whats in the packet and absolutely loves them. I didnt even tell him not to touch them either, amazing. If I am preparing food in the kitchen he wont jump up on the surface because he was told no as a kitten. I've monitored him with cameras many times. He always comes home when called. I've not known a cat that does what its told and doesnt break rules when there are no controls in place. Soz for rambling
