    Hi,

I recently got my hands on a gtx 1070 ti from gigabyte.
However, I noticed immediately that the fan speeds went crazy.

I'm not sure if it's coilwhine or just high pitched, the temps are 80c+ which i've never experienced.

Any solutions to what I can do?

83c at 3000rpm is very loud and hot. Clean the gpu, replace the tim.

    Was the card pre-owned? Curious

Try re-seating the heatsink with fresh new tim then report back.

Same thing happened to me once before, went to 90c like matter of seconds, this was running only on one gpu mode(If I remembered Correctly), after re-seating the heatsink properly, went down to like in the 50s'c.

Hmm, will that affect the warranty? I mean, there's still warranty, and yes the card was pre-owned by someone else.

Unless the warranty can be transferred. I know evga once did it in the past, I don't know if they still do it.

But yes, when I was messing around with one of my gtx 970, I am doing a 4-way project now for quite sometime, but when I had that huge spike in temps to like upper 90's, the card gave up and quit.

This was when I think I was doing single or dual gpu mode, couldn't remember, I think I was testing it under single gpu mode.

So I carefully took the heatsink out, use artic clean kit(Both thermal remover/Purifier).

New thermal Grizzly kyronaut paste, man your not kiddin' on how much difference it made, like over 40c difference, re-seating makes a world of difference.

Also, make sure not to over tighten the screws to much, doing so can render the gpu useless/paperweight, Happened to me one time with my 1080ti hybrid from evga, nice of them to give me another one.

When screwing it down, the moment you feel the tightness kicking in, just do another, very tad, and your all set.

Curious, what card is it from gigabyte? Reference design?

Yes, I have the receipt on the card. However, i'm not sure if this is faulty enough to return?

I mean, it shouldnt be above 80c. Its the windforce edition, so it should have enough fans.

It has 3 fans and a backplate, temps should be at 60's at half the fan speed.

Clean the card yourself its easy instead of bothering and waiting for rma.

I would probably get a better gfx tho, since they dont have 1070 ti anymore. What do you think?

    Before looking into another card:

What is your temps if fan is blasted to 100%?

    &

If you feel comfortable of doing it, please do what I mentioned before about removing the heatsink, clean out the paste, if you don't have the artic kit on hand, use some alcohol. Becareful of the memory thermal pads, then can easily rip apart.

Reseat the heatsink, report back once everything is done.

You should no doubt see massive difference.

    Hi,

I set my fans at 100% at idle they went down to 42c ish, and while running Superposition Benchmark they went up to 67c.

I swapped out my 1060 with this card, and the MSI 1060 never went above 65. Could it be software related as I didn't reinstall drivers?

My case is Phanteks Eclipse P400 , CPU cooler is h115i pro , and I have one top and rear fan which blows the air out. CPU fan is intake.

67c is fine but You might get better temp if you reseat the heatsink but thats entirely up to you.

I can't understand that the gfx should get 5-10 hotter with the cpu as intake, since the gtx 1060 didnt go above 65.

Is it normal that the gfx also makes a "high pitch noise" when the fans went to 100% ?

I mean, I've heard coilwhine before, but not sure if its the same here.

Should I have the cpu radiator @ top instead of front?

    You are overthinking this.

Change the thermal paste. If you aren't comfortable doing it watch a youtube video

The problem is that there's a 5 year warranty on the card, and it's only 1 1/2 half year old. So if I change the thermal paste the warranty is gone.

Not sure about GigaByte policy, but I know MSI and Asus won't void warranty for a repaste. They will if you use the card w/o the supplied cooler. WARRANTY VOID stickers are meaningless in US, they exist to scare users.

I updated the nVidia drivers and the idle temps are now 36c, and under load they go up to 78c with fans at 63%

Is it still a bit too high?

I've also noted that my h115i pro cant keep my i5-7600k below 65c under load while gaming, stress test is at about 70c.

However, shouldn't it keep my cpu cooler? Might be the stock fans that sucks.

Running my 7600k at 4.8 ghz and 1.250vcore with lvl 3 llc.'

Thinking about maybe getting some noctua a14 fans instead and use front as intake, top and rear as outtake fans

Might add that the idle temps on my cpu are at 28-29c while doing nothing in windows.

78C at 63% fan speed sounds ok, I'd probably like to see it lower, still. I'd probably still repaste. Or at least check if the screws holding the heatsink are tight.

Hmm, 83c at 75% fan speed now. The h115i pro sucks to cool my cpu tho. Might be the reason why the gfx suffers

    Warranty void stickers are bogus.

They are illegal in the US and won't hold up in a court of law.

Take a look at this forum link.

Basically same problem you have about gpu temps:
