Yeah, I think that's the point, the original game is so non-taxing to run (as well as being share ware), that in order to have 'everything' done through ray tracing meant using an old game with virtually no existing rendering overhead, which enables pretty much all of the frametime to be dedicated to ray tracing processing. This gen of ray tracing hardware isn't powerful enough to do 'full raytracing' on a significantly more complex game, and I guess the shareware nature of the game meant no legal issues with adding ray tracing to it, plus it's an iconic game so a good choice for NVidia from that point of view.

yep that is why i said it, RTX is not ready for primetime. which why I dont get why next gen consoles are gona have it, if this 800 4 cards cant deal with how is a 399-499 console gona do it
I mean even ea stopped ruining the moh franchise so just RT looks on the same game all I want is modern looks not the bs modern games they put out now. if it was not for hacks it would be more fun for me to play online nobody can really run amok with anything over powered. day one till last day everything is the same no upgrades no k/d ratios no regen just health packs maybe a sight no forced skins.you have to be good or a camper to stay around in a match just saying
I fired up the game RTX 2080 Runs 15-20 FPS 4k. Need to play 1920x1080. Game is still the same as I remember back in 2000 ,it is still bad but does have Global Illumination.
Yeah, 1440p performance is pants so had to play 1080p. After about an hour, I quit, the game still sucks.
Just as a data point and WTH, $5 on GOG... I managed ohhhh....the display FPS *indicated 10 FPS...but looked more like 5 ha ha at 4K. At 1080p it was ~15 FPS or so with RTX. Curious thing was Ogl VRAM use was just under 1.5GB at 4K but using RTX as the renderer, VRAM usage skyrocketed to 6GB VRAM usage.
