  2. I have always thought phase-change memory was super cool. A 64 gig one of these would make a nice cache drive, for sure.

I still don't know if Optane is Universally compatible, or if it is only compatible with certain Intel chipsets.

Sadly, it is not, only intel and only some chipset.
Samsung was on a way to do an universal equivalent but it's been years that there is no news about it.

Intel optane 900p works great with my 1950x threadripper :)

This optane "cache" is not working as cache on Amd, but it does work as storage :)

When it's not on a compatible chipset, it just don't make the use of smart caching, but it still works as an SSD, and i'm really tempted to buy one even for my Z97 because of reliability, durability and much better speed on granular data which is the type of data gives the most impact on day to day usage.

You should still be able to use it as a cache via software, you just can't use Intel's method of doing so.

    Yes :)

  9. They work quite well with Primocache

yes but it's the same than having a normal SSD (that are most of the time less expensive than Optane) and is not as fast as original optane + compliant chipset.
BTW: SSD caching it is solution used in lot of NAS, it work nice with primo and the licence is pretty innexpensive for home use.
