AMD Announces Ryzen 7 3700X, 3800X and Ryzen 9 3900X

I gotta say I guessed this better than the AdoredTV leaks. I had a really good feeling that the 3700X would remain an 8 core and that it wouldn't MSRP below $300. I suspected that $499 would be 12 core and not 16 core CPU. I also figured that Ryzen would not jump to 5 Ghz as Zen to Zen + was a small step in clocks and IPC. And why did I feel that the prices would result this way? Well as I said months ago, $300 9900K performance is a bargain. AMD is a business and they need to make money on their CPUs. There was no way in hell they were going to launch Zen 2 at 8 core $200 prices when the competition is nowhere near that figure. Same for 6 core parts as it is the price drops on existing Ryzen parts are amazing. $329 and $399 is even under cutting Intel currently at $480-$500 for 8 core 16 thread piece that runs hotter and draws more juice. Especially with AMD adding PCIE 4.0 as well they have all they need to be plenty competitive and currently lack the security threats Intel is dealing with. Why anyone was believe the AdoredTV leak is beyond me.

Anyways can't wait to compare 3700X or 3800X to my current 2700X and my 9900K. Although I may just grab a 3900X. Curious what we will see for overclocking I am sure in typical Ryzen fashion we won't see much of a clock increase but overall the architectural changes combined with higher clocks should be great. Will AMD become my new everyday system? Can't wait to find out. If high refresh gaming is no longer compromised than I believe so.

I've said it time and time again, my only criteria is performance. Either they're on par or faster than the 9900K(S) at a given price point or they are not. That said, part of me really hopes they are. I haven't had an AMD system in over 15 years, and there's a little bit of excitement at the thought I may finally get one. Roll on the benchies Hillbert. I won't consider buying a CPU until you do your magic.

So that's probably going to be a 3800x for me.

All depends on prices and reviews.

Oh ye, also need to know memory sweet spot.

 

And it only costs you $25 a month just to turn it on, plus the AC bill for the room it's in. The 9900k is a toy for people with no sense of perspective on what they are losing to get those speeds.

 

You can have a Intel 9900k for 535€ in Estonia, just for comparison. 9700k for 410€, 9600k is 277€.
These seem quite interesting with all the cache and pcie lanes.

How are your guys' experience about getting more out of them - overclocking? Heard they're pretty much near the cap already.

 

I'm guessing my 1800x will turn into 3800x/3900x this year.

 

Same here. I've been dying to update my 6900k system and one of those will do the trick nicely. I'll then pass on this system to my son.

 

IPC or singlethreaded performance? Those are different performance metrics with singlethreaded performance depending on both IPC AND clockspeed, whereas IPC is an isolated metric relating the executional processor performance to one clock cycle. Therefore, the latter metric, singlethreaded performance, scales with clockspeed...

 

The clocks are slower than I'd have expected. Of course if they really got the IPC significantly up, the challenges of the new architecture might explain it. Clocks are free performance, though, unlike architectural changes to raise the IPC.

 

I'm going to upgrade my i5 4590 to one of these Ryzen when released. (my history is: Athlon 64 Dual Core, Phenom II, i5 750, i5 4590).

My current issue is that the i5 4590 can't run some games at 60FPS smooth, even if I put my GPU at 60-70% load reducing graphics settings ( I have 4K g-sync monitor and a GTX 1080, which is a card for 50-60 fps depending on the game and without max settings obviously).
I have 16GB DDR3 of RAM and SSD only system.


Last games played: PUBG, Hitman Absolution, Darksiders 3.

So yeah I'm going to give a shot to AMD again. I hope i don't regret it!

 

If you want a better auto OC out of the box I guess the 3800X is the one to get? I don't think I'll do manual OC.

Clocks cost you power draw. Nothing is free.

 

Those are great numbers.

I was expecting the 12 cores to be called R9 3800 (there weren't a R7 2800) and the 16 been R9 3900, maybe they're waiting to launch ThreadRipper 3000 before, to don't kill it too fast.

I also expected these prices, on par with previous Ryzen per core cost, but faster, safer and better, a real upgrade.

Now, we only need reviews on real performance

 

I was very suspicious that the leaks of the 3600x being a 8 core part around 250€ was too good to be true and unfortunately i was right... Instead it´s going to be around 350€ here in Portugal, still a good price but not a killer one like the leaks were suggesting.

Well i guess this means i can keep my 7600K system and save some money, at least for now.
