Tell it to my new Thinkpad X1 Yoga. Intel's "drivers" for iGPU happen to love crashing on linux while waking up from suspend.
Well, we may actually blame intel. Funny as F* with my previous T450 intel's CPU had full freezes every few days due to HW bug with power management which had to be overridden by limiting power saving. Few generations newer CPU and it is GPU which causes issue for change.

For now, I found no way to prevent iGPU driver from crashing. And as it happens at wake up, it is at greeter where I can't run scripts/commands via keyboard shortcut to try restart this misbehaving driver in some more brutal way than system itself tries and fails at.
And to create process monitoring /var/log/messages for crashes would be pretty annoying as this driver crashes recoverably quite often.

And that means linux is not winner either. But for sure, it does what you tell it to do and does not stick fingers up yours to know you better.

 

Does this lovely update have a KB number so i can avoid it if poss.

 

not good, I just clean installed windows 1809 on uncles pc which is "home" I guess it going right on to "meter" connection. I think my system will stay on 1803 for time being, as I have no interest in redoing it with clean install of anything atm

 

To stop this crap:
gpedit.msc > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Data Collection and Preview Builds >
"Allow Telemetry" = Enabled, "0 - Security [Enterprise Only]"
"Disable pre-release features or settings" = Disabled

Windows Components > Windows Update > Defer Windows Updates >
"Select when Feature Updates are reveived" = Enabled, "Current Branch for Business"

You can also stop any kind of windows update automation here:
taskschd.msc > Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > UpdateOrchestrator
Disable anything you dont like the look of.

posted from my Antergos box from the second job place.
the only first job has Win 10, second is on the actual transition to full Linux.
We will have a Debian box with VMWare player which will virtualize a defunct XP POS which we can't get rid of, POS billing and database plus serial printer needed. But I am searching with fervor for alternatives.

 

For that purpose, I think Debian would be fine. Seems like one of those things where you want to just set it up and don't touch it, which Debian stable is ideal for.
Also, it seems you're going to have to double-up your search for alternatives because you might not want to be sticking with Antergos either:

But I'm sure you can just switch to Arch or Manjaro repos and you'll probably be fine.
