    You have it backwards, Micron bought out Intel's portion of the JV with Intel retaining all the rights to technology from gen 1 of 3D Xpoint but any subsequent generation will require Intel to license the technology.

    More likely than not, the reason the price is so high is that there is only 1 fab in the entire world that can make 3D Xpoint and until that comes up to full production, there will be a supply shortage and retailers will try to charge whatever they can. Micron said they will release their own 3D Xpoint products later this year or early next year.
