Ha I see what you did there, nice one... Most likely it's a modern version of the old Cold War stuff. I also suspect that a lot of it has to do with the Chinese being less open to agreed strategies about claiming ownership of stuff that isn't on Earth. Dunno if anyone has an ideas are the Chinese planning on putting someone on the moon, it would kinda explain why America has decided to go down this route again, a sort of yeah we can still do it so lets not start being silly about claiming we own the moon guys? As for resource, dunno even with Musk's reuseable rockets isn't it still too cost ineffective to start digging around on the moon for resource, it'll take a major investment in on site infrastructure and 'transport' to make the whole thing viable surely?
