With all the partitions that win10 creates along with ease of use concerns do you use a separate (albeit lower capacity) storage device for just win10 installs? If so, what's the best go to option?
I do not. I just got 1TB disk. Plus separate disk for backups of that system one, and separate disk for the content like movies and books.
I use a 500 GB Samsung ssd just for Windows 10 and and the Battlefield games I play, every thing else is stored on 2x 1tb WD black HDD
Yes. 500GB 970evo for Windows and some basic applications like Steam, Origin, Office. Then games on other various SSDs I have installed
500GB NVME SSD for Windows 10 + programs (steam, origin, openoffice, and my main games I play at the time) then a 2TB Sata3 SSD for my bulk game library and a 1TB HDD for backups, music, photos, etc.
kind of.. I do not use a seperate smaller disk but I do use a smaller partition (250GB) on a bigger disk (1TB) for the OS. I like to keep the OS backup images small -andy-
I never liked partitioning HDD'S, to me it felt like you were crippling the drives performance. But only in certain use cases, for instance a friend of mine had a 500GB HDD back about 10 years ago when they were super expensive and 1TB drives were over £200-£300. He partitioned it to 2x250GB and put his OS and programs on one and games on the other. His performance and loading times were nearly halved if not more so in games due to the drive being active in by two different sources (windows and his game). We all know what Windows XP could be like with HDD activity lol Sure its better now with newer drives and better OS optimisations, but I never liked it. Then again, I did splash out on a 250GB External USB2.0 drive solely for purpose of putting my games onto it..... it cost me £299.99 back in like 2005/6# Safe to say my loading times... were abysmal. Not even sure I had it hooked up to a USB2 port either, it could of been a USB1.5 slot, who knows
240GB ssd for w10 and office, then 1TB 3.5 for useless games, and it is also my downloadfolder, and one 200GB 3.5 for backing up "my documents" folder, and a 250GB for "I think I need this" stuff, last one is for what I have saved from several installations, that I dont really need...
Sadly, no partition for Windows 10. I keep only a 8.1 partition for some programs and a few games that will not run on other OS.
On this gaming laptop, 256gb SSD for W10 and progs, 500gb SSD for Steam and games and 500GB SSD for storage. On my gaming desktop, 1TB SSD for W10 and Steam/games, 500gb for Apps, several external 500gb SSD for storage.
Yeah, I have a separate 500GB Samsung SSD for the system, productivity applications, and personal documents. No games on that drive. For games I have two other 500GB SSDs. None of my SSDs or HDDs have extra partitions I'd have created.
Absolutely. 1 x 250gb SSD for windows + 500gb SSD for games currently playing (and 6tb other HDDs). Even the 250gb SSD is partitioned in 2, one for current windows 10 install and another for insiders editions. The reason I prefer small Windows drives/partitions is that it allows me to image them quickly for backups/restores.
I always make a small partition for Windows and the major apps I use so backups are much smaller. Its also easier to screw with the OS and not harm any of my games. ie I can format the OS partition without having to re-download or copy back my games, they are snug in their own partitions. Not that I use Windows 10 anyway lol.
Notebook came with an 960 EVO 256GB M.2 and a standard 1TB HDD. replaced HDD with a 500gb 850 EVO SSD and added a 960 EVO 500 GB to 2nd M.2 port. Still use the 1TB HDD via a USB3 to SATA adapter as needed.
250 GB SSD Win 10 Pro, storage 3 TB HDD. I used a HP Proliant DL380 for backup for a long time , but like the 3 TB better Can you guess why, don't lose sleep over it.
120GB 830 ssd for OS 1TB 860 evo for Storage my HDD has now become my backup drive to my 1TB for my music and other stuff I dont want to lose, which amounts to about 50GB if that
