Hello, can someone tell me why the V7900 isn't faster in performance compared to the W5000? The V7900 not only heats up to around 75-80c when playing games, but the performance in games runs worse. W5000 no problem gaming, card barely reaches 60c when gaming. But the V7900 specs are way way better over the W5000. I don't get it. I'm buying a W7000 4GB soon though, just curious about the v7900 vs w5000.

Yes, seems to, but its runs like crap for me. The draw power it says is 150w. I'm using a Dell T3500, I have 12GB of ram, 3 dvd drives, and 2 external hdd's and 3 internal hard drives, one small 120mm fan, and a pcie usb 3.0 card that is hook up to my 2 external hard drives and i have a PCI Diamond extreme 5.1 card my cpu is a Xeon 5670. could it be that the v7900 is being botteneck and my psu is too cheap to handle it? its 525 watts. My W5000 runs like a champ though, games runs flawless, no problems. card stays around 33 at idle and barely hitting 65c when gaming. I just thought would ask about this while I am waiting for my refund, I'm buying a better card, most likely a W7000 or 5100 Radeon Pro WX
If it is a bottleneck, my guess would be it's most likely the memory bandwidth? The PSU (from Dell?) could be the cause, but for a 150 watt card that seems unlikely.
Psu is crap and probably not having enough power to handle v7900. That x5670 is also pulling like 130w.
PSU has 525 watts, xeon 5670 i believe is 95watts. my w5000 is around 75watts. Quick question, downloading after burner, the fan speed default is at 33%, if i increase the fan speed would this make the card die faster? also there's an auto option which did increase to 68% . The card idles at 49-55c now. played two games which perform much better over the W5000, but the temps went up to 80c and the other game up to 84c. even though the framerate at max was around 75-100 on both games.
Thermal throttling could be an issue, thats the first amd gpu to use power tune, it will clock down if it hits its throttle point.(would have to check the vbios to see what that is, could be lower than a radeon since it is a firepro) Also ,the old terascale cards are heavily dependent on driver optimizations, older games may run better on the v7900, there is also the issue of cpu bottleneck, the terascale cards can become cpu bottlenecked very easily compared to gcn(w5000). The x5670 may not be fast enough to prevent this from happening in some games, as I have seen bottlenecking even with a 3.5ghz ivybridge quad, on a weaker terascale card.

Hey guys, here's the bottom line so far. The W5000 is of course newer than the V7900 so better driver support and overall especially newer games runs flawless. I have no issues with the W5000. As for the V7900 obviously older even though the specs are better than the W5000 , after testing and testing, i have the card running just fine. With afterburning increasing the fan speed helps cool the card, at idle its around 49-55c and gaming it does hit up to around 75c, if i keep the fan speed to 47(default is 33%), it gets up to around 75-80. So i have the card running just fine now. As for performance, videos in 4k run just fine, games. "USER1" you're right, older games does run much better. or should i say certain games. I only bought the V7900 for 19.99 just to try it out for fun. But overall the w5000 is more powerful. but the v7900 is good for older games. As for the Thermal throtting, i have afterburner running, doesn't seem to be doing that. Besides that, i plan to keep it for backup. But i am buying a Radeon pro WX card in 2 weeks, either the WX 4100 4GB or 8GB Radeon pro wx 5100, depending on the price. the w5100 i see are under 200, so it depends on the price. The pro wx will replace my w5100 and i plan to use the w5100 on my second build.
