Every card can actually do something similar to DLSS - just upscale + sharpen

i do not think fury X will ever win on average the 980 ti especially with just 4 gb memory , the fine wine *in my opinion* came out because of how well the 7xxx and 2xx generation aged Gcn was new the drivers for it where immature to put it mildly and over time they got better it helped that the next generations where also gcn so improvements trickled down , on the other hand time was not kind at all to the 69xx cards or fury

you do spend money on DLSS indirectly, DLSS requires the tensor cores which take up die-space, increase complexity, reduce yield and so on.
the Turing architecture is great but Nvidia was marketing RTX, they justified the price increase because of RTX, they demoed ONLY RTX on their CES keynote.
If you buy GPUs based on "gravy" then you're certainly not the majority. people don't liked being manipulated and lied to.

We know there is a loss, of course...;) But consider if there's "no image quality loss," but very probably a downward trend in frame rates, then what is the point??? Why use it at all? It makes no sense at all to use it in 4k--it's a definite downgrade of performance and image quality. With criticism, now nVidia is saying they aren't satisfied with the image quality. But I don't seem to remember nVidia saying anything of the kind when they introduced these very expensive GPUs!

Because of that huge base of Vram, it's really the card to have if you also like to compile videos and do things like multitask several high performance modeling programs, or *real* ray-tracing programs, and the like. In another post on another topic recently, I posted a link to a very interesting article detailing how the Radeon VII handled with ease their work requirements--requirements that brought down the 2080ti--simply because it didn't have enough Vram onboard. It was a very interesting read. Very illuminating.

Of course they can't, they're done, they were finished ages ago.

true but in a year from now that pig can be a fox
I have no horse in this race so it wont matter to me at this point
but it may if ms and or amd go hard on dxr in the next few years

    DLSS = marketing scam.

NEVER release something that isn't working then lie to the consumer with a promise of a (frame-rate hit) fix when you're found out. Poor show.

Only it is working. And it improves performance. Only part of it that is "not working" is image quality right now. This will no doubt be improved upon with time. How much by? We don't know. It's a new technology that definitely needs time to mature.

DLSS = marketing scam / QA beaten again --> valid definition based on current QA output.

Any process that reduces output resolution (targeted, but easily visible) will earn itself an fps lift. This clearly isn't the by-product of fully QA-passed machine learning 'experience' since we wouldn't be seeing this being revealed so widely in the press. Plan B - where QA gets a long overdue say - is now about to hit. Let's hope this particular fix doesn't upset game graphic designers. Again.

Awesome to hear, because in its current state in Metro Exodus it looks like I just went from 4k to 1080p, it seriously is pointless and ruins graphics if not done well. Its an all or nothing situation here, gotta put in the work or just don't bother having it in your game. On the brighter side, at least the performance gain is nice!

RTS owners: "We don't mind paying out our ass for turing, we want Ray Tracing and DLSS, its the future"

*DLSS gives worse image quality than normal upscaling which has been available for decades for the same performance*

RTX owner: "We never really cared about DLSS."

    :D:D:D:D

Nvidia trying to build unified GPUs made for commercial applications and trying to convince gamers to pay more for features they never asked for.
