My wife got me a copy for Christmas.
Just started it, barely thirty minutes in, but... really damn impressive so far.

It take a while until the world opens up. The first hour is a little tough to endure, but after that it goes in a crescendo.
If o may offer a piece of advice, take your time playing it, try to make a as many as side quest as possible, and enjoy the ride:)

The only downside of the game was not being able to refuse quests because you have lumbago.

Well, she got it for me, I installed it last night... then company shows up.
So, the TV room is filled with people... and I am so NOT a people person. So, while they do the family thing in the front of the house, I'm hidden away in my office with the door shut. Playing Alan Wake for the how the hell knows how many times.

I'm lucky my wife has as much interest in socialising and family get to gethers as me, she'd much rather be inside with the curtains drawn playing Red Dead next to me ;)

Well, my wife wants to watch me play it.
And... wasn't exactly thrilled when they showed up. But, she's nicer then me... and tried to be civil with them.

Some of the side quests should be done as soon as they show up because it's easy to miss them by advancing with the main story too much. Made this mistake myself. The game feels a lot more fleshed out when doing all the side quests.
Also some of the challenges (like Bandit Challenge: steal 5 horses and sell them) can't be done until you get more contacts during the story.

Anybody know how to repair the bow? Or where to perhaps purchase a new one? Nothing at the gun shop in Valentine.

You cant, the bow doesn't require maintenance, it doesn't wear down, you can only equip different types of arrows

Fair enough just got a message about it’s condition last time I pulled it out. But thanks for the answer.

  12. That is a bug. Happened to me as well. I had my customized double-barreled shotgun on horse and I've picked another one in some house that was in poor condition. After I got on my horse, the poor shotgun disappeared and my customized shotgun was degraded to poor condition and had to be repaired even though it had all its upgrades fitted. So I went to a shop, repaired the shotgun and after that when I equipped a bow, my bow was in poor condition....

So TLDR this game has a lot of bugs.

It's not just that. There is literally nothing to do online free roam wise. Some missions here and there but.. It's essentially a hunting simulator with little to spend money and gold on.

I agree. I'm a lone wolf or a coop player but not into PvP anymore (played too many years of CS back then before it was cool).

The only thing i can do online is to check all places where those dynamic bandit hideouts spawn. Hunting isn't my thing either. I just wanna shoot bandits and do cool missions or heists if they come along eventually.

I am waiting for PC version, as I have no other devices to run it on. And the game seems to by very, very interesting and dynamic.

  18. I must say that the more I played it, the more disappointed I was. Half of gameplay mechanics are unpolished or purely broken(bounty system is just a joke to name one). Most game design choices were made against fun or purely against any common sense or even reality. Every longer session is just about trying to avoid stupid mechanics or bugs. Many times you just have to forcibly search for any form of fun. I was even forced to disable autosave and use manual save only to be more successful in "avoiding R* stupidity".

This game is the best example of what is wrong with most AAA games these days. They introduce a lot of game mechanics without ability to polish them properly because of complexity of their mutual interconnections. That forces them to leave half of mechanics unfinished and other half broken. They just bury any form of fun under tons of unpolished rubbish so they can call it an AAA game.

And we all know that from here on out all resources and effort will be used on Online and whatever’s broke in the story wil stay broken
