I was listening to the radio and they interviewed an ex astronaut, then cued in some cool space related orchestra music. Then suddenly I went out to look for it.. something like this I searched around google, youtube, itunes...most I could find was Jame Horner's stuff related to Apollo 13 but is there anything else? A ton of hip hop stuff or trance music comes up for a lot of the would-be-common sense search strings..grrrr!!

Well it's inspired by Aaron Coplands "fanfare for the common man" if that helps. (used as the theme for star trek DS9 as well if you remember that one.)
Richard Srauss "Also Sprach Zarathustra" or in other words the opening to 2001: A Space Odessy. Actually try getting the entire 2001 sound track. Space Odessy opening http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWnmCu3U09w
It is a genre: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_music - you might take some recommendations from here

I'll throw in Paul Oakenfolk, The Chemical Brothers, The Orb, or for real space music, Pink Floyd! You can go with these two as well, Space Oddity - David Bowie or Major Tom (coming home) - Peter Schilling. Somehow anything by The Dead Kennedys seem to fit in my twisted mind as well.
NASA releases 19,000 hours of audio from historic Apollo 11 mission https://archive.org/details/Apollo11Audio That's music to my ears.
Fanfare for the common man - Aaron Copeland For some reason, I've always associated with space travel. I'm sure I've heard it when visiting Kennedy or Houston. EDIT: doh, see it was already recommended by Dustpuppy...
Not certain what sort of music you have in mind, precisely, but this was the first thing that came to mind: I grew up listening to this courtesy of my Dad's reel-to-reel. From about 1:45 or so, it kind of has a Forbidden Planet feel. I remember it used to make the dog anxious and frightened. I probably was traumatized a bit, as well.
