It'll be all new so I don't think it has to be SATA SSD just for the sake of it :) (I'm assuming older SATA devices remain compatible when the OS is on an NVME SSD?) :) Samsung 970 are the ones to go for?

I did mention sata ssd just because they are the most common "problem solvers" for slow, older hardware. Depends what do you mean by compatibility between nvme and sata, if you are asking if when nvme drive is plugged in then because of some reason sata drives would stop work then no, this is not the case, sata and nvme drives can work together without issues. Only problem of this kind which may happen on some motherboards is when you plug m.2/nvme drive one of pci-express ports may become disabled or slowed down to x4 speed and it is physically the lowest placed pci-express port. This limitation comes from number of pci-express lines supported by cpu and chipset. If this is the case then it is clearly described in motherboard manual.

On choice of particular ssd i see samsung is the most popular which means this brand is the most tested by tech specialists and common people. So i would go samsung or intel.

    My current Amazon cart:

The RAM is a placeholder, I'll finalise the specific make/model during Black Friday. I don't want to spend more than around 800 EUR in total so depending on discounts (or lack thereof), I may drop the SSD to 500gb and the RAM to 16gb.

See if you can't maybe get G.Skill FlareX CL14 memory. I'm able to OC mine easily to 3400 with tighter timings. Can probably go higher but I don't have direct cooling on my RAM so I don't want to push it too hard! :)

Yeah it's possible, like I said the RAM is a placeholder :)

Today i finally received my second stick of ram and tried it so far with just one game: rainbow six siege, and i noticed difference instantly, works way smoother. It is g.skill 3000MHz with cl16. Later i will test it with higher xmp profiles and maybe mess around with timings. I decided to go with 3000MHz because there was too big difference in price between 3000 and 3200MHz. Extra 200MHz was not worth paying 25% more.

Yeah that's the dilemma I'll be facing, you have to draw the line somewhere at a price point and find the best RAM that fits that.

That's amazing price, congrats! A bit over half of what i paid for exactly that cpu.

    P.S.
Did you order it from amazon.es? I just checked at the moment and price is 321euros or did you just get lucky and watched out some amazing discount?

I got it from Amazon.it 194.21 delivered! No idea if it was a flash sale or a glitch but I checked later and it was already back to 340 EUR! I checked and triple checked it was the right CPU etc. etc. as I couldn't believe my eyes!

Amazon UK is having a 1 day sale on the 970 Evo so got the 1tb version for 211 EUR delivered. Now just the motherboard and RAM (and maybe CPU cooler).

I've actually decided to revise my build slightly and go for the Asus Prime as it's 170 EUR versus the ROG Strix at 220 EUR. About to pull the pin on G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series F4-3200C14D-16GVR 16 GB (8 GB x 2) DDR4 3200 MHz CL14 Memory Kit for 211 EUR as well.

    All parts ordered:

    AMD Ryzen 2700x - 194.21 EUR
    Asus Prime X470-PRO - 169.80 EUR
    Gskill F4-3200C14D-16GVR RAM - 211.40 EUR
    Samsung MZ-V7E1T0BW 970 EVO 1 TB - 211.83

    Total: 787.24EUR

I think the only final thing I might order is an All in One water cooler, should be good to go with the rest :)

Decided against getting a water cooler, too risky for me, will either use the stock one for a while or buy an air cooler around 80EUR if it's an improvement over the Wraith one.

Yeah that's the decision I pretty much reached the the Noctua's seem to be about the best option but for now I'll stick with the stock cooler until I know what clearance etc I have in my case for a better cooler.

The CPU/RAM/Mobo all arrived today and the good news is it all installed perfectly, booted first time, cloned my OS to the new NVME which also booted perfectly, bad news is I later realised Amazon sent the wrong RAM, they send me F4-2400 not F4-3200, so have a replacement order arrive on Tuesday and for now will use this RAM then return it when the new RAM is installed, that's why I only buy from Amazon, any other store would take forever to resolve such a problem and probably insist I return the RAM first before they send a replacement.

That's awesome attitude by amazon but from my experience as customer and fullfillment center employee (part time job i do for fun) doesn't wonder me much but still i respect that and that's what i like at this company, they have very pro-consumer approach.

Looks good! I had slight memory compatibility issue (in dual channel random bsods and freezes) while in single channel everything was fine) and few more with my motherboard but after contacting with asrock support essentially they sent me to be released/work in progress version of bios which fixed all my problems and added one of features i was about to ask them but not asked yet. I'm using this bios since 2h so to fully confirm i need 1-2 more days.

My only problems are the new Dlink router I bought! So far the PC with the RAM is stable and taking the speeds no problem:

I will explore the Dram calculator and all that when I've tested it normally for a few days :)

Used Dram calculator to calculate tightened timings (went with safe first of course) and the results are:
