$479 for 9900k is actually a good price. Let's see if this hold out to be true, and not just some placeholder price.

Yes i was thinking that the i9900k, being 650 if lucky but 480 is actually good price, that's good very good really, We need to thanks AMD that pushed Intel to once again... If not that CPU would of costed 1k easily and care if not more.

I'll believe it when I see final EU prices.

This. And btw, 190$ for a quad core without HT is still mental. The price for the 9900K though seems competitive (within Intel's understatement of the term...)

It wouldn't even exist, to begin with.

Poor Intel's HEDT users, they need to downgrade to mainstream Platform to Upgrade their performance for Adobe and etc with 9900K ;-).

From what I've seen so far of the all the different leaks online there will only be ONE CPU in the range with hyper-threading - the 9900K. Seems a bit of an odd call from Intel....

I wonder if it is based on what they could bin from their current architecture and yields. I assume there can only be so far one can push the same architecture before it runs out of steam

They can always glue two of those together.

Getting a 2700X with about 7-10% more game performance and ~10 or so % in CPU performance for an extra 40-45% bucks is everything but a good price. I mean yes, in Intel's terms it's a good price, but thank God we have another contender from which you can get nearly same performance for 330$.

Sure, I am also counting on Zen 2 to deliver. As I'm planning to make that my next upgrade But compared to $799 or what was it from the initial leak as a price for 9900k, this is a major improvement. +it has solder. ;)

So the price of the 9700K matches the price of the 8700K on Neweeg (I am from the EU, so dont know if that is a good place to compare prices).. And comparing the 8700K to the 9900K it is about 26% more expensive. That makes sense when we look at the cores I would say.

Also that a 8700K is about 389€ in the EU. 1.26x 389 = 490€.. That is in line with what i estimated when we first heard the specs.. For me it makes not sense to set the price around 600€. That would be way too much. But lets see when they release it as it is Intel, and the price is always higher ind the beginning.

Highest performing cpu ( per brand , per segment pro/consumer) has always an higher price point. Each top list CPU has always been unreasonably more priced than the one one step down in the list with similar specs.

Yes this is true, switching context for threads on the same core has a small cost, 8 cores are better than 4 cores with HT.

The reason for HT being enabled on the top cpu only i think is to
a: mitigate specter/meltdown stuff that is higly related to smt
b: you cannot stay 8 thread if the competitor has 16.

I'm not sure I can follow your logic... where do those 1.26 times the price come from?

Well as of me, I already have a x470 board... so i will just wait for the Zen2 instead... i am almost sure that we are going to get same performance as 8700k or only 2 to 3% diff on gaming. if AMD sticks with 8 core scheme.

Ah, now I see, thanks. Comes from the price difference between the generations of CPUs. I should do too much thinking right after lunch.

Wait, have we reached the point where a mainstream CPU for around 500€ is considered a great price???

A few points of clarification ...
    1. Bizgram is a retailer, not a distributor. You can verify here as it is printed at the top.
    http://www.bizgram.com/pricelist/001 Bizgram Daily DIY Pricelist.pdf
    2. Local VAT (aka GST) has already been included in the prices printed. (I was a customer.)
    3. This is the final price consumers pay to get the CPU, though I'd guess these are the SGD prices to pay to pre-order the chips.
