It can't be 399.99, that leaves no room for the hotfix for the hotfix's beta hotfix. They need some room so that the 400.00 can drop when the new GPU's are announced.

398.98 caused my GTX 1070 GPU temperature increase from 38C to 45C when idling, rolled back driver and all went back to normal.

    Impossible. Perhaps your ambient changed?

Bullshit. This is due to the ambient temperature or your over-clocking is not stable. FYI, my weather is 32°c & my idle temperature is 43°c because is quite hot over here. (Feel like 38°c)

That should not be possible because voltages and fan speed run off bios data.
Did you note what changed, voltage or fan speed?

Nothing changed here as far as temps and even performance.

Edit: the only thing that could be is if clocks were running high for application, like if it was set to high performance.

As @EdKiefer wrote above, driver cannot change clock/voltage settings. Hence its in driver setting that changed. Such as performance mode, refresh rate, gsync, game profile e.t.c.

As a test, you can back up with Nvidia inspector your current profile which will include all the settings for all games/apps, install the new driver and with Nvidia inspector import back the "stable" settings.

I already posted that that's the driver Geforce Experience installed. However, installing a driver on it's own doesn't work and gives the error msg.

(Just to clarify my original post, I'm reporting the fix I found, not looking for a fix).

True but it would be nice if they did a bit moe quality testing so they don't need all these hotfixe's in the first place.

what about your idle clock ?
i know some driver often causing "stuck" .... so clock remain low-to-mid instead lowest
if the clock normal... then no idea what causing the temp

    -----------
    anyway to all
what better driver for MHW ?
i read many people having bad performance with 398.82
and reverting to 398.36 give much better performance
    how about this 398.98 ?
