Yes-yes, nothing interesting, but when you see how much Intel is asking for the CPUs and then check AMD's, then comes the interesting thing. Who cares if it's not as fast as it should be by the number of cores if Intel is asking shitty prices for their CPUs? :D

Poor Intel boi, you definitely not checking multithread programs. :)

So blue-eyed guys should be at least happy that their favourite company is letting them more cores for the same money as before thanks to Zen if they're not at least happy that AMD is back in the race again.

Just for those guys: check TPUps question with 26000 votes. Nearly the same % of CPU owners have the 1,5 generiaton of Ryzens as the last 3 generations of Intel CPUs (26-29%).

I believe your math leaves something to be desired...;) Is there something I've missed? The i9 7980XE is 18 cores. Now 16 cores is precisely half--50%--of the number of cores of the 2990WX--32. But we are talking about 18 cores--which means that the 2990WX has < 50% more cores.. So in actuality it seems the ~53% performance delta is actually better per core than the i9 7980XE. If I missed something I am positive you will tell me...;)

(Honestly, there are all kinds of ways to figure percentages...drive a person mad conceptualizing it...;) )

    LUL its easy

    AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX
    32 Cores (100% of 32)

    Intel Core i9-7980XE
    18 Cores (56.25% of 32)

    100% - 56.25% = 43.75%

So... for 43.75% more cores (and is less expensive) you're receiving 53% more performance

for the first time (for me personally) i'm thinking of a threadripper with a proper monoblock to cover the vrms too.
...you know they're coming shortly after the beefy new boards.
i would really like to see (in my own controlled enviro) how far i can go stable on all cores, not just single core performance.
my threadripper case is nice enough to keep, but i'll either sell off gen 1.0 or donate to a film school (for tax credit). looking forward to my next tax return. hahahaha (evil and grinning)

If some XYZ cpu has 36 cores, then it has 100% more cores than 7980XE. So the calculation of 77.78% is correct.

There is one thing most of you haven't considered and it's the price. I dunno how about in your country, but in mine, price of 7980XE float around 2000€, price for Threadripper is rumoured around 1500€. 500€ Is one fourth of the price of the Intel.
So, for 43.75% more core and 25% less price you get 53% more power, that's a hell of a deal.

    I have 1950x and 1800x too, poor boy ;)

Name some multithreaded programs that scale well on 16+ cores ;)

  10. This better ruffle a few of Intels feathers. We all know Intels previous generations have been far too expensive - but that's because when they launched they still had the performance crown so they could get away with pricing ridiculously high - The indication is that the new lineup is going to be far more competitively priced (because they have to) It will be very interesting indeed to see how intel hits back with it's processors running 16c and higher.

According to the latest rumors the 2990WX will cost $1799 USD. The 7980XE has a price tag of $1999 USD (MSRP) so that's a difference of $200. The former is still by far the better deal though (53% more performance for 10% less = no brainer).

Still, I'm hoping there will be deals for TR 2 over the coming months. TR 1 had some sweet deals (up to 30% off at one point) and I'll be very happy if I can pick up a 2990WX for $1400.

Folding@home and BOINC, which can utilize all cores and threads. The 2990WX would be awesome for mining proof-of-research coins like Curecoin and Gridcoin, which is what I'm currently using my 1950X for.

F@H is not that good for more than 16 threads.

    Hi there

Recently build loop for a friend, he have good old 6950x with 7*GPUs which he using mostly for Octane rendering or other GPU based renderers

Another loop is with 7980XE and there he is running 4*GPUs only, this PC he using too mostly for rendering but only with V-RAY or Corona renderer

He have as well TR4 1950X right now, there he running too 4*GPUs and this is his main workhorse for rendering although 7980XE is faster in these SW

Regarding which SW can scale good on 16+ cores I would say most of CPU based renderers like are Corona Renderer, AMD Pro Render, Cycles or V-RAY, Maxon own C4D CPU renderer and few others

I still think this CPU would be more suitable or suited for people who can harness or use these cores/threads, buying this CPU for gaming only is in my view waste

    Hope this helps

    Thanks, Jura

I'm staying with AMD for a good while to come. They seem to have it going on finally. Do not count Intel out! Really all Intel has to do is lower their prices and it's game on! I'm looking forward to the AMD/Intel wars of 2019/2020.

I still see Warlord is making retarded comments against AMD as usual.
HDET cpu and crysis 1 comment is still to do this year moronic.
IPC has come so far since 2007, even though its barely a 2 thread engine, game runs very well on even Ryzen.
The General troll of this year it seems.

I'm sorry but why is it when every single high end system ends up being this way people only decide to comment on it when its about AMD?

Intels 12 core 7920x processor is not 100% faster then Intels 6-core 8700K

Intels 16 core processors are not 100% faster then Intels 8 core processors.

Intels 18 core processors are not 80% faster then Intels 10 core processors.

This is completely and totally normal, since the more cores you have, the lower speed you have to have them due to thermals and power. Anyone who doesn't understand this, doesn't understand technology, and i really question why you're even here.

It's reminiscent to how people complain that AMDs 16 core processor isn't faster then Intels 6 core processor in games, yet not taking into consideration that Intels 8 core, 10 core, 12 core, 14 core and 16 core processors are ALSO not as fast in games then Intels 6 core processor.

Stop cherry picking what you decide to complain about, if you're going to complain about this, you'll have to complain when it comes to intel as well, since both are EQUAL to these regards.

The only area this doesn't happen, and again, this happens with BOTH companies, is in various stages between 1-8 cores currently, due to technology allowing both companies to deal with the thermals just fine, and having 100% increases in overall speed can happen if the frequencies are the same. As well, both companies stategically make some of the higher core processors have higher speeds per core then some of the lower core processors, it allows them to have "premium products" where you not only get more cores, but each core is faster then something lower then it.

But i can't stress this enough, this is the same with BOTH COMPANIES. Everything that is stated in this thread is the same with BOTH COMPANIES.

^ This too. Complaining that it has more then 53% more cores, but doesn't have more then 53% more performance, but not even paying attention to the fact that you get 53% more performance for less money, all i'm seeing here is cherry picking your complaints.

Intel fans refuse to except when they are defeated.
even after being smashed in the face they refuse to flinch.
talk about being devoted to a brand its honestly extremely retarded.
(My washing machine can clean my clothes faster than yours without using as much power.)

Secular execution just keeps on giving, Anyone willing to purchase Intel today knowing full well the chips security is compromised is a pure nutcase.
