Pair it with this. https://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.3843166 I'm Really loving it. Saw some okish prices on a 1080ti too.
Turn down shadows and we are talking 50-60 fps at 1080p bro, only have pop in in the benchmark gameplay is really smooth and no noticeable hiccups even with full vram
I know your 1060 is good m8, but with my 3gb 780 ti, i had tons of stutter with textures at max. Then again, if you don't mind turning it down, then it still has good performance. Especially for the price you got it for But i suspect you would have wanted the 6gb version, if you hadn't gotten the deal you got
Yeah for sure bro, I have a feeling i wont have top wait too long for 8gb of vram hehe Anyway i am downloading your shared ROTTR so i can show you benches and gameplay
Well nvidia sure are taking their sweet time to release the new gpus... might end up not being before next year that i replace the 1080's ! Looking forward to it
I had 1070 GTX(sold it) and I know. It eats 6GB VRAM, but for now I'm fine with 1060. Waiting new series
If we can keep the 1060 3gb under $200.00 U.S. It's a great card for a first/new build for someone that is strapped for cash. Right now the 6gb ones are still way over priced. As are all of the cards really. I have a 3gb and a 6gb 1060. Both PC's have the same games installed. I'm very happy using either. If I didn't build it i'd never know which was which.
Depends on the resolution though - at 4k, rise of the tomb raider maxed out will use as much as 10gb vram. I've read that it stutters a bit for people with 980 ti sli when running 4k maxed out, due to those gpu's "only" having 6gb vram. There is barely any stuttering for me with my 1080 sli setup though, eventhough i can see that it uses 1-2gb "shared memory" (aka offloads some of what the vram doesn't have room for, to the system ram).
I get a little bit of stuttering in Rise of the Tomb Raider, but since it's an early DX12 game it's probably not optimized as good as it could be. Regardless I still score 75-80fps on the benchmark at 1080p, FXAA, V-sync off, all settings maxed including pure hair.
I used a 770 2gb for three years, but its become very apparent that the majority of games in the last couple years really need at least 4gb of vram if you want high settings with good framerates. The 1060 6gb is a great card, but unfortunately the prices right now are ridiculous. I got mine for $280 just before the price inflation hit, and I love it. Probably won't upgrade again until the 1260 or whatever its called will be out.
yeah my 660Tis started running out of video memory too. Even though they were "fast enough" I had to run most of the games I played(Forza Horizon 3 being one) at 720 res and even then it would run out of video memory.
DDR and GDDR are 2 different things Running out of VRAM (GDDR) will not cause a system to crash but yes 4gb is suggested as minimum these days at resolutions (over) 1080p, under there your are fine with 2-3gb
I would buy 6gig version even second hand if needed to save some money. Newer games are going to really tax the vram and when u run out then you will notice slow downs as the game will start taxing your system memory which is really slow compared to gddr5.
Why would you need ultra textures on 1080p? I can't even see a difference in 1440p 99% of the time, let alone 1080p. The only place where it does make a difference is on Lara's character model. In the world, there doesn't seem to be any difference. However, I can't remember if you need to drop to medium textures to stay within 3GB. If yes, then that would be a visible difference at 1080p.
