Core i5 still only 6 threads? What a pile of crap.

It was only 4 threads year ago :wink wink:
i5 being 12 threads would make i7 obsolete. Whole lineup have to increase cores count.

And yes, preservatives could be used longer than i5 chips.

My favorite hardware news was actually the i9 series announcement in reaction to AMD.... I still find that just so hilarious.... like yesssssss Intel people want cpu's with more cores.

Your brain is pile of crap.
How many cores should (the new) i7 have by that twisted logic then?

Boring. Wake me up when we have some concrete info on i9-9900K 8c/16t

I have very secret concrete info, DO NOT spread it without my confirmation:
It will cost over $9000 and heat would be over 9000°C :D

The sad truth is that without Ryzen- i7 8700K could be 7700K with same 100~200 Mhz boost with new MB and chipset...

But most of the "Gamers" don't remember this, and for the 5% @720P~1080P performance boost they choose to pay to Intel Again- instead Helping AMD to keep the competition.
I get it when AMD had only FX 83XX and performace difference was massive, but now when the gap is less then 5%? those "Gamers" do deserve to be stuck with Intel's WalletRippers:mad:.
Those CPU's are almost same as 6700K that was released 3 years ago! and now another "Update" you get 9X00 series-LOL.

Well, on one side it is "only 100~200MHz", on other side they may be good CPUs if price is good.
Someone with recent intel can shed some light:
Can non-K CPU like i5-9600 be told that it has Power Limit of 125W same way as with K chips? If yes, then one can get decent performance on all cores. (But they should have increase base clock here too, as in worst case scenario it will be no better than i5-8600.)
And then i5-9600K. Who cares about stock turbo clock? Owner is going to tweak it anyway.

It's not about cores but about the fact that AMD literally obliterated Intel's artificial market segmentation.

Intel needs a new segmentation direly, unless of course people keep preferring 6/6 over 6/12 - but even that I'd expect to stop come '19 / '20.

The i5 line has been Intel's articifical crippled redheaded stepchild for generations now, solely because they could. They cannot anymore. Well, shouldn't anyway.

Intel having a heart attack with it's "tick-tock" scenario.

    Lemmeguess...the 8086K isn't a perfect 8700K, it's actually an early 9700K with some extra markup...

It's the same damn processor why do they lock off the threads? IT costs the same to make as an unlocked one so what is the point.

How about don't be an asshole just because someone has a different opinion compared to yours. You think that could work?
i7s should have 8 cores, like their competition does. But if you like being ripped off, go right ahead and buy some.

I think you either don't know what binning is, or you're vastly overestimating how many chips end up being good enough for being classified as an i7.
Not all chips coming out of the fab are perfect, those which end up having defective hyperthreading are sold off as i5s. If 1/6 cores is defective, you cut 1 more and sell it as an i3. That's binning.

Yes, they might artificially castrate some perfectly good i7s to meet the demand for the better selling i5s but that's just about it. They definitely don't castrate all of them.

At intel headquarters it seems that they ve got some panic after the ryzen and threadripper release...excuse me...you know for what the bad blue people are releasing those i9 chips?
The extra die space that is being occupied by the integrated graphics is not allowing any significant improvement in terms of core count...it seems that intel is paying for their infamous $$$ marketing.

    Pentium - dual w/HT
    i3 - quad
    i5 - hex
    i9 - octa

    That'd make sense...

...but then again when did anything intel ever did make sense?

    Byebye Intel.

And a big BOO to all the 'tards buying their latest generation with "merely 100 and 200 MHz speed bumps".
