Now, that's interesting. People had fridge type cooling before. but those were gheto hacks. This looks nice. I wonder, how heavy it is? How many degrees under ambient it gets under no load? And how it deals with condensation.
IT must be a peltier, also used in ghetto hacks, that sometimes caught fire, and it depends on its power and efficiency (the temp below ambient T), the most commonly used were the 53~57w, 89w, and for the hardcore 267w. Don't know if there was any evolution in efficiency/CoP, or lower voltages versions.
i had a peltier on my pentium 3 550 overclocked to 825mhz It was pointless and was making more noise than other, but i felt so geek. It was 120w.
so they can go minus 0 easily, and you deal with condensation insulating with proper stuff (neopren) probably the commercial version is less hardcore and will have a sort of embedded thermometer and will switch on/off when is enough below 0 to avoid condensating. Or is not an option for the market
Oh looking at the picture, it looks like they are not using the thermo electric couple one the cpu directly, but rather using it to cool the water that then goes in the cpu. That thing that looks like a radiator is just a cooler for the peliter.... In this way it could be not condensing at all.
If tubing going from peltier block has less than 10°C, then there will be condensation on it as long as room temperature is 21°C or higher and humidity is 50% or more.
yes the pelletier would have to cool the liquid on not be place on the cpu, if you can keep your liquid into the 10-15 degrees you shouldnt get condensation, people have been experimenting with pelletier for a while now to cool the cpu, the best way is to cool your liquid and not your cpu directly, but then again, is it power friendly, if it takes you an extra 100-200 watts just to cool your system, to possibly gain a 200-300 mhz, whats the point basicly
It would be cool if it had the ability to passively cool the processor until you start loading it up, and then kick into active mode with the TEC only if you needed it. Could definitely keep it more efficient that way.
