Damn, I am glad this thread popped up haha. I checked mine and realized that I am not even getting half the speed I am paying for! Do not know how that happened but I have a Comcast tech coming out on Thursday to make it right dammit! I should be getting 400 Mbps and I am only getting 127 right now. Some of you have some seriously fast ass connections....
I usta have 1GB U/D fibre on a symmetric connection, with 2m/s ping, but then I moved to the city again for reasons that made sense at the time... I'm informed hyperoptic will be installing Fibre Optic cabling by the end of the year, so I will get back on a decent connection again, because all this asymmetric crap is just, well, crap, and the only credit I can give it is that I get what I pay for...but that's hardly an excuse for this crap.
Just setup a dedicated server for https://store.steampowered.com/app/228380/Wreckfest_April_2018/ if anyone else plays. The demolition derby is fun as hell!
This is what I am getting for free: Ping 28 ms Download 8.49 Mbps Upload 1.97 Mbps I can win the thread form the price/connection pov, right? Messing with ya'all, but I can win some internet points?
Att's Fiber 1GB service, that came into my area an couple of months ago. I left comcast as soon it was done.
How much is that? If it's $85 (ish) dollars like on their website (inc tax), that's not bad when you convert that to euro/GBP pricing. Not bad at all.
Yea I recall so. Better then what comcast was trying to charge me for having TV+internet and phone. The bundle i have with att is an whole lot better then comcast's.
I have 150/4, a bit of a ripoff, but they just build new fiberoptics canals on my street so that is going to change soon Think I'll get aio 300/50 (net/tv/phone) for 10€ less and different isp, now I finally have 3 different to chose from after 10yrs...
I wish Google Fiber would head north a little bit.... I'm tired of Verizon.... They are one of the most consumer unfriendly companies I've ever dealt with.... Depends on your ISP and location.... AT&T and Verizon offer "1Gbps" internet in some locations. Google has their "Google Fiber" service that offers "1Gbps" service... However, Verizon's "1Gbps" service is a damn ripoff....just like everything else Verizon offers.
If you get Fibre Optic To The Premises, with a Fibre Optic Modem - it will be symmetrical, so, no difference between upload and download. That is the way it should be, as Asymmetric is (frankly) crap, because it will say something like "XXX MB internet !!!!" in their promotional blurb, but ignores two key points: -Contention ratios (sharing that supposed high bandwidth with 50+ people, who also use the telephony switch at the same POP/Exchange location nearby - sheesh it's bad) -Asymmetric internet (upload speeds roughly 1-10% of download speed) FTTP completely obliterates these two points, as you can see by the results in this thread: those with TRUE fibre optic connections have next to Zero ping, and a symmetric connection. You don't have to worry about using the internet in the slightest and speed, well, that just becomes some sort of abstract concept. ADSL needs to die. There are companies out there who use the word "Fibre" but do not use Fibre Optic cabling, and certainly not to the premises and most definitely do not use/supply/provide Fibre Optic Modems. My current supplier is really deceptive about this, making claims of "Fibre" yet they only have coaxial node network with RF boosters to off-set the degradation. So, a warning to you and anyone else, wherever you are in the world: when a company claims to supply a "fibre" service to you - seek clarification on these points and simply ask: -Is it Fibre optic to the premises? -Is it a Fibre optic modem? -What is the contention ratio? -What is my up and down speed? If the answer to these questions is 'no', 'no', 'ROFL:1' '<n/n' then, either your supplier is lying to you, or they are inept.
@Loobyluggs Well the thing is I can either get 300/50 or 100/100 for the same money. I don't upload as much as I use to and 50mbit would be enough, especially now comapred to only 4mbit ul lol xD There are also 500/500 or 1000/1000 options, but a lot more €€€ My current net is optic but only main line, to house its coaxial.. I'm sure they could have at least make a 150/20, but nah no competition and they abuse it.. well not for long.
