Why do I only get 45 to 50s fps when it is snowing in GTA 5 at 2k resolution with all settings max?

Is this normal with a Geforce GTX 1080ti ?

    Here are my specs

    i7 7700k
    Geforce GTX 1080ti
    32GB of RAM
    500 GB Samsung SSD
    4 TB WD Black HD

    I can't imagine what 4k does. omg

Wouldn't the snow be taxing the GPU? Maybe the shader for it is inefficient?

Yes it is normal for 1080Ti and GTA V and other games that are CPU bound.

I do not think he has vsync on-just max settings FPS drops can drop pretty low in areas of the city.

He is not running max settings,of course when you turn down settings you can get higher FPS.
The game can be CPU bound,I see people saying all the time well I get 100+FPS ,but it is just not true with max settings.
Turn down settings like ultra grass, and some distance things and you will be fine with little to no difference in quality with high FPS.

Just done a couple quick test in grassy area

EG: Max Settings 2560 x 1440 gets to under 30 FPS in grassy areas of the game
    GTX1080Ti 2088 core 5900 mem
    I7 CPU 4500Mhz

EG:Settings turned down 2560 x 1440 gets to around 100 FPS in grassy areas of the game
    GTX1080Ti 2088 core 5900 mem
    I7 CPU 4500Mhz

I'm not dropping below 60fps at all at 4k and my cpu is only a 6600k and I have half the ram. Almost everything is maxed but not everything. I have everything maxed with the exception of grass -set to high, AA set to fxaa and reflection msaa off. Shadows are set to soft largest and advanced options are all on with bars set half way.

Afaik reduce particles resolution, they are very unoptimized. I bet you have them on Ultra.

Lower or turn off main MSAA, next post process set to v.high instead of ultra, same goes for grass/foliage.

You can keep adv gfx maxed, I am and never noticed bad perf., Only lower distant objects..

Foliage one notch down from the highest setting, lower/disable MSAA, and try not to push the extended distance detail slider to high, probably one of the most demanding settings.

    Two words: Particle effects.
Reduce those, and you'll get your framerate back.

Use Afterburner and see what your CPU (per core) and GPU load is. Whatever is at >97% is the reason for the slowdown.
