Wouldn't it have been cheaper to just use 580s instead? From what I heard, they perform roughly the same for mining. Meanwhile, since this is a very customized setup anyway, they could've modified the BIOSes of the 580s to be pre-overclocked; you can't do that with Pascal products to my knowledge.

They are not using 1070 cards, they are using striped down versions for mining which are cheaper. AMD 580 isn't even easy to find, and if you do, they are not cheap, especially if you plan to purchase hundreds of thousands of them. I am not even sure that they are available in those quantities at the source.

    Fair point.
I'm sure it doesn't stay at that speed all the time. Besides, have you ever been in a server room? Sometimes you need earplugs because the fans are spinning so fast.

Every server room I have been in, which is about 10, were all pretty quiet. Just a hum. And one even had 110 server racks in it with quad amd opteron per 1CU. Watching my exs mom do a DVD conversion to my PSP on that made me so damn jealous. It had 4x 2ghz Dual cores, and I only had an overclcocked 939 X2 3800+ @ 3.1ghz

A combined hash rate of 330 MH/s means that each GPU can do 36.7 MH/s, which is better than the 29 MH/s that a (modded) RX 580 can do. I'm guessing they're already fully optimized for mining.

A look at the manufacturer's site for the product shows an interesting assembly (http://www.inno3d.com/products_detail.php?refid=351). Looks like the system itself is on a separate controller card, which plugs into a PCIe slot. Seems like a really customized rig, as opposed to most others which are just modified PCs.
