it looks like it would be almost 1080 performance, making the 1080 less desirable option?

AMD already can't afford to sell many 56's as they are artificially holding the 56 AIB's back, considering how much it cost AMD to make a 56 is the same as a 64 they can not afford to sell the 56 at less than $400.

Will likely be GDDR5 8Gb/s just like current 1070's. Also keep in mind 1080 recently got a 5-10% (depending on title) bump in performance over launch with the 11Gb/s memory upgrade so the current gap from 1070 to 1080 is more like 27%. This 1070ti may match the original 1080 with an overclock but the "new" 1080 will be superior.

Keep this in mind too. Nvidia may keep the same power profile with this 1070 which could limit the average OC to under 2Ghz.

Reminds me of the 560ti 446 core.

it looks like they use die´s that damaged/defective or not good enough for 1080 and made the 1070ti out of it , depends on the price in € , maybe i change my old gtx590 quad setup then to a 1070ti
1080ti is a bit to expensive for me to change

I really don't understand why NVIDIA is releasing this card. The specs make it seem like it will come close to the GTX 1080 but since that card already exists then why confuse the market by releasing a card that falls between the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070? Why not just drop the price of the GTX 1080 to make a competitor to AMD's Vega 56 and 64 cards?

I understand the reason for the GTX 1080 Ti as that is the high end consumer card and it is substantially faster than the GTX 1080.

Mind you with the whole confusing Titan X (Maxwell), Titan XP (Pascal) and Titan Xp naming thing I'm not convinced that NVIDIA quite know what they're doing these days! :D

Current 1080 already beats RXV64 for less money. This card will not be as fast a the current 1080. Nvidia does not need to address prices. They have the best $/perfomance in the high end 64 vs. 1080 and with this will regain that in the upper mid range/performance range.

    Key word is: Perception.

1070 Ti is a "new" GPU to compete with a possible Vega 56 sold at his MSRP price.

It will be a "new" GPU with better price, more performance and lower needed power ready to compete with the not so new Vega 56

1070 Ti will beat Vega 56 even in the case AMD manage to make it available at his MSRP price in an undetermined future.

Wow ... a 1080 for about $400. Pretty good deal.

Probably 50% this 50% nvidia wanting to clear cut down GP104 stock ahead of Volta.

We all know it will sell. For the next 6 months this will be THE card to get for the performance segment.

OFC Nvidia has a stock of chips to "flush" with a nice benefit before Volta launch. :D

Specs seem a bit too close to GTX 1080, performance will be too close to GTX 1080, not sure I agree that they'll have that many cores activated. I reckon the launch will lower prices of GTX 1080 & GTX 1070.

The old 1070 was already a decent mining card. The new one will likely be an even better miner which could screw up its price. Should be interesting if/when this is released.

Looking at these speculative specs, this card is going to be awfully close in performance to the 1080. 19 SM vs 20. I know the memory is also a notch slower. I just think they will make it more in the middle of the 1080 and 1070 with something like 18 or 17 SM's.

Yup, this way they get to do press releases and churn up more hype.

I wonder if they will drop the price of the regular 1070 or just not bother since Vega 56 isn't too be had for MSRP (USA at least) right now anyways...?

Keep in mind 1080 at this moment has ~40% more memory bandwidth than the 1070.
