40% of the island has no power and it took out 2 weather service radar installations. Pretty devastating. Hope Chispy made out alright.

I hope you and the people of Puerto Rico recover quickly.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — The strongest hurricane to hit Puerto Rico in over 80 years tore off roofs and doors, unleashed heavy flooding and brought down cell towers and power lines Wednesday in an onslaught that could deepen the island's financial crisis.

Leaving at least nine people dead in its wake across the Caribbean, Hurricane Maria blew ashore in the morning in the southeast coastal town of Yabucoa as a Category 4 storm with winds of 155 mph (250 kph), and was expected to punish the U.S. territory with life-threatening winds for 12 to 24 hours.

It was the second time in two weeks that Puerto Rico felt the wrath of a hurricane.

As people waited it out in shelters or took cover inside stairwells, bathrooms and closets, Maria slowly crossed the island, knocking down communication towers, snapping trees and unloading at least 20 inches (50 centimeters) of rain.

Widespread flooding was reported across the island, with dozens of cars half-submerged in some neighborhoods and many streets turned into rivers. People calling local radio stations reported that doors were being torn off their hinges and a water tank flew away.

    Dam.

Officials say it may be 3 or 4 months to restore all the downed power lines.

Yes I read that too today... can't even imagine what people here would do with 24 hours without power, they'd probably die because they don't even know that vegetables grow in the earth, or that there was food before the invention of the refrigerator.

Having a back-up generator is a must in Florida. It just sucks to lose power in the summer here because it's as hot and humid as Satan's butt crack.

You do what you have to do. Maybe you talk about it, maybe you don't. But you do leave it up to the individual. It will be a highly emotional experience that will take time to express. Pray they get that opportunity. We will be here to listen.

    It sounds bad.
Reports from the UK said the governor (cant remember if thats his title) reckons 4 to 6 months.
The whole power grid was wiped out.
    Fingers crossed Chispy is ok.

and I quote...>“Irma gave us a break, but Maria destroyed us,” said Edwin Serrano, a construction worker in Old San Juan."

It's really sad to see all the destruction that was left behind.

I really hope Chipsy is ok and that we'll hear from him soon.

hehe I can imagine, I've been there once over Christmas / New Year's, and there I still knew what the AC was for :D
On the other hand, I have to say, if people can't take it, they should seriously consider not living in Florida if one could avoid it. But it's not like you grow up there and then leave everything behind because it's too hot.

On the Carribean though, those poor folk have greater worries than AC... I too hope we get some sort of signal from chispy, better sooner than later.

Stupid question, and I know it might sound cold but it's not meant to be, but who expects Intel CPUs to be in shorter supply / higher price now that their Puerto Rico factory probably isn't working anymore?

    I hope he is Ok.

I noticed this, it was good that he checked in after the first one, but this one seems so much worse. Let us know when you have the chance!
