Does anyone know why AMD disabled Direct3D FP16 support on GCN3/4 GPUs since 17.2.x? Any vanguard user here?

GCN3/4 GPUS (they have the same isa) support FP16... They do not support packed operation (while GCN5/Vega Does), and the FP32:FP16 ratio is stil 1:1, but FP16 is still usefull for development purpose, it also save power and heat, might help on bandwidth a little too. On OpenCL the driver still suppoer FP16.

Have you by any chance tried Far Cry Primal, especially with the 280x? I lost 2/3rds of my frame rate and I have tried literally everything.

I've tried it on 290 and it's indeed noticeably lower but not even close to 2/3 (46 AVG 1070/1400 vs 50 a while back at 1000/1300).

For me it's 18fps from 58fps, same settings.

I don't have the game anymore, but i remember having differences in performance between various versions of drivers.
And i remember it, because i used to check the performance of the newly installed drivers with the built-in benchmark of the game.
I am talking about 5-10 fps though.

Did you tried reseting, or even removing, the game profile from AMD Radeon settings ?

Try wiping out the Shader Cache. I had a weird issue like this before with another game, and wiping the cache fixed it back to previous performance. And no, upgrading the driver doesn't wipe the cache.

How lucky I must be coz I am not in Xfiring or overclocking and don't have any problems :)

You are not lucky, drivers are solid.

I don't have any FC other than the first one.

Plus BF3-4-1. If you see something you're interested in, just ask. ;)

Uh, I have FC2 too, HumbleBundles fault. :D

I have wiped out the whole driver multiple times, nothing works.

I was having some issues with the frame rate fluctuations once in a while until I realized my overclock (on the cpu) was the culprit. Try to reset your bios to its defaults. Far cry Primal is very sensitive to those minuscule changes.

Two weeks gaming with RX Vega 64, I change Tessellation from x16 to AMD Optimized. just wow, the Tessellation on the rocks & surface look way better then x16 mode. RX Vega has no hit in Frame Rate with AMD Tessellation now after playing Ghost Recon Wildlands.

I thought AMD optimized was just a built in preset that reduced tesselation applied on some game profiles to alleviate low fps problems in those games where tesselation only seems to run fine on NV cards (fallout 4 comes to mind). Could it be that amd optimized for that game is something like 32X (or maybe leaving the game at default 64x if there's nothing set to be forced on that game profile for the optimized setting), so it looks better than your forced 16x?

Interested in seeing the comparison screenshots, please. Also can you do it with AMD Optimized, 16x and 32x?

I see your post and try this new driver.
In Far Cry Primal, all good as 17.7.1,nothing changed.
In The Witcher 3(Tessellation 8x) tests: Novigrad the same fps,in the wild almost 1fps+.

MSI AF 4.3.0 works at stock clocks,I try a little OC to Gpu and I have artefacts on desktop.

    i test it 1000mhz min 36 - avg 46
    2- with 1050mhz 1st run min 34 - avg 47 - max 57
    2nd run min 38 - avg 48 - max 59

vs old build November 2016 youtube asus 1070 mhz
    39-53-64
so about 2 to 8 percent less maybe max 10 percent
try power limit max +20 or ... and make sure other games run good and go to gpu z see if power consumption and gpu usage is normal
those driver yes there are less stable so the best way is roll back to old drivers then you confirm its not hardware and driver issues maybe those are less efficient with certain cpu or they use new code build like avx or something to push vega drawcalls or thier zen hh cause everything is possible with amd :D
