So I completed a build a little while back and was running a 2133mhz kit which I was able to OC to 3000mhz. I was looking for a little more so I started looking online and see several G.Skill kits that are listed for 4000mhz+, but when I check out their website they state the standard speed as 2133mhz. So this brings about my question, is the ram manufactured as 2133 and (given that this was the default for Z170) and simply tested to reach the advertised speeds or is there something different within the modules themselves? I assume its just proven OC speeds but I have to ask!
They are built to run a specific JEDEC frequencies but those that are fast are the one's that the manufacturer binned to run at said speeds... There are other jedec speeds, think so far standard can be up to 2667 Basically manufacturers bin ICs to run at target frequencys, those that don't meet what they want are either binned for lower frequencys or are pushed to stock jedec speed kits.
