If they brought out a 6 core CPU that ran at 4ghz then i'd buy it. But since they don't have that then there's very little reason for me to upgrade from my current CPU.

I would like base 4ghz on 6 core/12 thread too, base of 3.8 and turbo of over 4ghz is good too

likelihood of dropping this into my board is slim. Would be good though.

I would like that too on skylake board because that would save me moneys, but i do not like Intel and hope this "new platform" shows nothing new about PCI-E Gen or USB Gen or SATA Gen and U still would have to replace your motherboard because U know - greed.

it is rumored, that the coffee lake generation will not be supported by anything lower than the upcoming 370 chipset series.
but there is still no official word out from intel, so we can still hope.

I was also hoping to just swap my processor so i wouldn't need to buy a new mb.. But if it turns out to be true that you need a 370 chipset I might aswell get Ryzen.

If Intel really wants this to sell, they should provide support for 100, 200 series motherboard. Competition is fierce right now and so far i5/i7 on the HEDT aren't looking very attractive.

Oh here we go again, just can't help drag AMD into the mix. Every post I see about Intel there just that one person who wants attention by dragging AMD into the conversation and most annoyingly stating the obvious about Ryzen. It's sickening. Price, cores...#YAWN!!

The "rumors" about it only supporting 300 series chipsets are technically baseless. They are assumptions from consumers. I'd suggest waiting for word from Intel about compatibility prior to making any "definitive" statement.

Feeling the same way.. Either down the line swapping it and hoping for a cheepo 7700K (not likely, just check current Haswell prices on used hardware) or going Ryzen, unless things change. I do miss the Phenom II.

nah its same as Z87 vs Z97.. IMEI won't be fully compatible.

So folks with Z170 Kabby Lake is your only upgrade, Z270 is about 99% the same with extra optane? so again no Coffee Lake.

Some of the early leaks were shown on Z270 boards, no. I'm just hoping Intel does let all LGA1151 use it. Then again it would be interesting to watch the shift to AMD if they don't.

This is the chip I've been waiting for. Sounds good to me. I don't see anything else worth for me to upgrade to until next year when this releases.

This is different. i5 with just 6 thread, 6 cores.

Your X5650 is a 6 core with 12 thread. Wont be any HyperThreading on the I5.

    And yes, I had a X5650 @ 4.5gh before my 3930k. Still a cracking chip.

Idk, I've checked now and yeah some say both could support it, IMEI firmware updates.

But stability can be a issue.. When I tested Broadwell IMEI update it bugged bclk freq., could be working ok on Broadwell though :nerd:
