Got my Gigabyte Aorus Extreme today. Beautiful card and the quitest card I have ever had.

The last custom card I had was a 680 lightning and despite the marketing b.s it was extremely loud and overclocked terribly. This card with my fan curve hits 100% fan speed and is quieter than my 1080 founder on auto fan speed.

The card advertises an o.c mode which isn't bios mode but a setting in their software which is +25 core and a tiny bit of memory o.c....not sure of the exact amound.

I just added +30 core and +300 memory in msi. It wasn't ticking over to the next boost increment so I gave it +5more over the advertised +25mhz ( over the defaultbo.c of 1607mhz ).

With max power target and an aggressive fan curve the card is now always 2012mhz-2038mhz core. Usually sitting on 2025.

But from the reviews I read. Basically every 100mhz memory added is like adding 500mhz core. It just makes more of a difference. And as I've seen from many reviews that +30-40mhz core was the max they could acheive, and +300mhz basically the highest guaranteed stable amount, I'm not going to bother trying for more.

I've seen arguments that go on for 50 pages on overclockers forum about how people claiming that all 1080tis can get a stable constant boost of 2100mhz is b.s. and people saying not all cards can even do 2050 for a constant boost. So my card being 100% stable, insanely quiet and hitting expected goals. I'm going to call it a day.

So after having to do a fresh windows install with this card becase half my games wouldn't launch, I'm feeling like I have overcome my constant disapointment with new series of GPUs finally...as my last few gpus all still struggled with the lastest games at 1080p maxed, despite what so many claim...

Some of my results with the games I've tested so far:
Playing witcher 3 all maxed with hairworks on high and hbao+ I'm getting 55-60 frames at all times in 4k. Turning hairworks of gives me a constant 60.

Also I've never seen an image as entirely free from aliasing as Doom 2016 on nightmare settings at 4k with 8TSAA, 60 frames min, delicious. Also when I bought my 4k tv I thought the input lag was horrific because even though my 1080 was getting 60 frames at 4k the lag was unbelievable. Lag is gone now with this card very happy.

Crysis 3, maxed as well SMAA 2TX 4k, 60 frames as well.

Installed Fallout 4 and installing deus ex mankind divided now, haven't tested yet. Will install farcry 4 later as well.

    Edit:

Farcry 4 and wolfenstein the new order both run at 60fps maxed also but farcry had the stutter that the nvidia effects always cause so I set ssao to nornal and hair to the non nvidia setting. Leaving godrays on nvidia is still smooth though.

Metro last light, 50-60fps 4k very high with advabced physx etc on. Just without ssaa

And yet another edit, just installed and played mirrors edge 2 for a bit, looks amazing, 60fps maxed as well.

So far Mass Effect Andromeda is the only game I have tried to defeat the 1080ti at 4k.

So is everyone getting the Strix OC Edition? Or are people having luck with the base model?

Figured maybe the OC Edition might be binned for better overclocks and would maybe have a better chance at winning the silicon lottery?

I seriously doubt they cherry pick chips these days. If so, it could certainly help. But they would probably use it as a sales argument (like the Kingpin with "guaranteed" 2025MHz core OC), so as long as they don't say they cherry pick, I honestly don't think they do it.

Guys dumb Question. If im running 1440p and i am still on my 3770k Running at 4.6Ghz is a 1080TI going to be better than 1080 regular or my CPU would slow it down?

It's not on the low side, it is equal or better tham every single review of the 1080ti in heir tests of metro last light redux in 4k.

The 1080p framerate is irrelevant in comparison.

Also I play with v sync on. I'm not interested in massaging my e-peen with the frame rates I get with screen tearing or the max frames. I am interested in minimum frames and the minimum is 50 and the frames rate it is at most of the time is 60 with vsync.

That is at 4k very high with very high tesselatiob and advanced physx on. All reviews stated the average frames with this card to be around 50 frames. I get more than that with my non reference overclocked card. Pretty simple

At 1440p for a gtx 1080ti playing a modern stressing game on max settings etc....if you would get maybe 60-80 frames with a 6700k at 4.6 the average frames would almost be unnafected. Maybe 2-5 frames worst case scenario but in my experience your minimum frames can be effected by much more. Maybe you will get drops to 30 where a 6700k would drop to 45.

Just find a 1080ti review that does minimum frames and cpu scaling tests...there are a few out there.

Yeah I was browsing through it and looked that my min frames might suffer up to 7 to 9 fps with my CPU at that speed. Don't mind really since I want to extend the life a bit further of the system

I think you would be fine with 3770k @ 4.6ghz, maybe exchange for faster sys ram, 2133 or 2400 would make a diff vs 1600 by certain cpu bound scenarios.

Buying a new 32GB of RAM is a big expense in proportion to the benefit theyll get on the same CPU.

I'm running a 1080ti with my 3770K @ 4.5ghz and I'm getting scores more or less equal to the benchmarks of the reviews done with slightly faster cpu's. I haven't seen a CPU bottleneck yet at 2560x1440 and 3840x2160.

Maybe @1080p there might be a small bottleneck in some games, but that's such a low resolution...:D

I just want to say that GTX 1080 Ti + G-SYNC monitor = Best Gaming Experience Ever!

I'm absolutely loving gaming on my PC since investing in both of these. IMO, the latter especially is the biggest advance in PC gaming since 3D acceleration. How did I manage so long without it? :3eyes:
