Indeed, really nasty,Overclocked Skylake(aka Kaby Lake) with no improvements.

Amd will push Ryzen with 12-16 cores/24-32 threads.

Well, I like this release.. I went with the 7700k as for pure gaming I didnt need more cores - but I needed fast cores. And if I could chose the same cpu, just with quad core memory - then I'd likely get that one..
The 7740k naming also implies that this is simply a slightly modified 7700k - so core-performance would be expected to stay the same.

Next upgrade I'd like to see is 4.5 ghz boost cpu's with more Pci lanes :)

The most pointless was 7350k at €200 (in my country)
It seems we gonna have a new king of pointless.

Why is everyone upset about this? What did Intel do wrong this time? Not allowed to do entry level HEDT processors?

I don't know the k sku i3 was pretty pointless.

You know just another day for Intel. Stealing candy from babies, shoving elderly people and kicking puppies.

@Hilbert : Wheres this Quad channel memory info coming from ?
I can't see it on the screen caps, and even Intel themselves have shown that it should be a dual channel memory configuration for the KabyLake-X CPU.

If they made a new chip, they would add PCIe lanes also, it would be stupid not to on this platform.

I'd be more interested in 8600k honestly true 6 core and it's looking like it will remain on 1151.

Because a X299 motherboard will cost at least 300 dollars for a quad core CPU.
It's like you buy a $300 board for i3 with the difference that now you are forced to buy that expensive board for a quad core cpu.

Average x99's are around $200-250. The boards that say gaming in the name are around $300+ but those are for extreme overclocking or the l33t dumbasses that think it makes their d*cks bigger.

Based on what? I can find new X99 boards for under $200 some as low as $150. That's not to mention that competition with AMD's platform will just drive costs lower in order to stay competitive.

How do you know Intel isn't going to bring out budget level x299 boards for the budget Kabylake-X processor they are trying to push?

People are just making stuff up because they want a reason to be annoyed at Intel for some reason. We don't have pricing or performance information on any of this stuff.

on the positive side you can swap to high-end cpu

while i am not sure what make intel decision for kabylake-x but X299 is enthusiast platform by design, it mean for skylake-x

but when i think more it can be good things for everyone
    single X299 chipset means:
for mobo maker only need one design, and just add extra feature on premium model
nowdays mobo-maker always make like that anyway, premium-gaming-oc-value etc.

mobo price is not fixed to chipset, the extra feature that mobo maker add to the mobo add the extra price nowdays
i believe there will sub$300 X299 mobo available

for consumer, they can buy kabylake-x today and save bucks, and swap to skylake-x when the price drop

for gaming / most consumer, value-wise maybe still better go with kabylake
so for upgrade (value-minded) maybe better wait for coffee-lake?

but people urging for upgrade can go with X299 kabylake-x ... and if they need upgrade swap to skylake-x which is good things
