EVGA just announced a Bios update that will update any 1080 to newer version. I hope others follow this and not choose the greedy option like MSI.

maybe faster memory for a few more frames but it will be reflected in the cost

I own a 1080. How is Nvidia taking money from me or exploiting me? Are we going to consider every revision of every CPU/GPU milking from now on? The refresh provides a 5% increase in performance in TimeSpy - which is identical to the RX480 -> 580 increase.

It's not milking, it's just a response to AMD's refreshed line-up without the guise of a new name.

Also for the record I hate milk.

No, 1080 is end of cycle why keep releasing as new.. Even for a new buyer, imo it it just that yeah milking lol :D

I just find it funny and pointless that's all.

Guess they got scared of Vega so they had to make something "attractive" again, since they don't have anything else atm in that segment.

maybe they should just release 20xx series, and maybe my endless waiting for new gpu will end and I will actual get new one, then again I will probably keep waiting till get get around to play one the games I have that actual need more power then the 660gtx got.

yah i just want 300$ or less card capple of keeping 60 FPS on highest settings in current games. at 1080p at the min and 1440p at max res.

I doubt we will see 300$ or less gpu that can do that at 4k, any time soon, I have yet to buy 4k UHDTV or even a 1440p monitor. for me to get 1440p 27" monitor with features I want like gsync, it make more sense for me to get my 40" UHDTV

Either way buying new GPU or TV kinda screws me in to needing to spend money I want to spend atlest not all at once on Av-receiver that support hdmi cause current unit dont support it , Do to UHDTV i looking at dont have RGB/DVI (and pretty much none support DP) and only have 3 HDMI ports, and Seeing I using all HDMI port on my current HDTV with my PC connected via DVI-I to RGB port on TV.

It just causes issue, it is one of reason why I not bought new gpu, they seem to of phased out dvi-i connections for most part which i need in my curent setup

1080 is half way through it's cycle. Volta isn't coming out till ~March 2018. AMD just refreshed it's entire Polaris line-up with a 5% increase of the RX580 over the 480 (on average) - you just said that's fine - but Nvidia adding bumping the 1080 up 5% is not fine, because it's only memory or something (you still haven't clarified why the slight overclock on the 580 is fine but the one of the 1080 is bad).

Is it a partial response to Vega? Maybe. But then how does it make it pointless? You literally said what the point is. A response to Vega.

The RX580 comes close. It drops slightly under 60 in a few games in DX11 but DX12 it does QHD @ 60 no problem.

My 1080 G1 costs $60 less than the 1080 gaming X, but managed 72 fps in Wildlands out of the box, only a frame less than the gaming X, and when OC, it reached 77 fps. I wonder how many frame the Gaming X gets when OC?
