Modded 15.3-15.5 drivers allowed real 4K (3840x2160) VSR on GCN 1.1 GPUs.

After 15.5 drivers AMD made some changes in drivers that prevent modding to get real 4K VSR on GCN 1.1 GPUs.

Do you have any of the old modded drivers you can upload to a glorious driver collection on MediaFire.com? I'm so sick of looking at 3200x1800 ughh

Thank you for the reply sir, Might you be so kind as to PM me about possibly uploading the specific version to mediafire or direct to this website?

I'm on Windows 10 x64, any word on those old drivers working on windows 10?

crimson 16.1 is the latest that works with 4k VSR on GCN 1.1, just replace atikmdag.sys with the modded one and some registry tweaks are required. too bad i can't get the latest drivers to work, atikmdag.sys that asder has modified doesn't work anymore with newer drivers :-(

    @Dejan_Ibanez

Thank you so much for the help. So you say replace Atikmdag.sys with the modded one, which is where exactly? I'd be happy to try it.

I have created a package, everything in it is to enable 4k on gcn 1.1 from catalyst 15.3 - to crimson 16.1

maximum is 4096 x 2304 on my system, anything above and the picture is cut-off or fuzzy, and the you have to change to 3840x2160 first then to 4096 x 2304 for it to work

It could be because of the dvi port. maybe with display port 1.2 it is possible, you can try it

you need dec to hex online converter, find your 4k resolution in the code and edit the hex registry code

Thank you for the reply. So which driver do you use for 4096x2304? That's wild man! I'm so jealous. I wish there was some favor I could do for you if you can get everything lined up for my specific HDMI Samsung LN40B500, probably HDMI 1.1 or 1.2?

The great part of the LN40B500 is that it has truly perfect 1:1 pixel accuracy, so I can tell a huge difference on the highest of VSR resolutions.

It would be unreal to have 4096x2304 man! I'm sorry but I need some solid guidance before I can take the wheel on my own bud... I learn very quickly if you can help send me in the right direction. I would appreciate it, dearly.

    I know this much :
So I suppose the value we are looking for is a positive value.
    3840 decimal is +1 3841 to hex is 0F 01, flipped to 01 0F.
    2160 decimal is +1 2161 to hex is 08 71, flipped to 71 08.
    4096 in decimal is +1 4097 to hex is 10 01, flipped to 01 10.
    finally 2304 decimal is +1 2305 to hex is 09 01, flipped to 01 09.

As far as AMD usVddcOffset goes, it's a negative value.
3840 decimal is +1 -3841 to hex is F0 FF, flipped to FF 0F.
    2160 decimal is +1 -2161 to hex is F7 8F, flipped to 8F F7.
4096 in decimal is +1 -4097 to hex is EF FF, flipped to FF EF.
finally 2304 decimal is +1 -2305 to hex is F6 FF, flipped to FF F6.

    Thank You

yes, you enter the flipped into the fields, without +1, every resolution has it's own field, you can also change your refresh rate if your monitor support more than 60hz. drawing shows 3840x2160

do not add +1 when converting

Any GCN .1.1 card can go up to 4k with modded driver, maybe even more with displayport 1.2, it's a shame amd has locked this feature for us, i have reached asder and ask him if he could modify new drivers (atikmdag.sys) but he has not responded :-(

I wonder if they locked it down because VSR seems to be using parts of the video encoder to resize frames for the final presentation, and the older drivers seemed to be doing this with software downscaling like NVIDIA does. I would still prefer to have the option :/

4k was always locked even with the old drivers, I don't think it has to do with video encoder, it would be great if someone with modding skills can mod the latest driver to unlock it again

I wish we knew what Asder00 does to the driver... Explains how he did it, then we can all gain the knowledge and not need him per say... Not to say we don't very much appreciate his work but for times like right now...

So that picture didn't show up... I have no idea where even to begin here... Might someone help dial in the .cmd or whatever and .reg to get this lined up for me? Pretty pretty please? :D

Nevermind, I got the pic. I think I can do this now... So just add it exactly as it is in the pic?

Can you show how to add 4096x2304 & 5120x2880 above 3840x2160? Thanks

I'm on AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.1.1 Hotfix Driver Version 15.301.1801

Will it work? I found the area in the reg for the 4k but no 4k... I used Asder00's patcher to patch atikmdag.sys while DSE was off in test mode... added the hdmi 4k .reg and ran the .cmd and restarted...

don't add more resolutions, just edit that on the picture to whichever you want and test it, i recommend you stay on 4k, 3840x2160 because 4096x2304 is unstable and every time you enter the game you must use 3840x2160 then 4096x2304 and every time you exit the game you must return to the 3840x2160, to much hassle. 5120x2880 won't work on hdmi 1.2,1.3,dvi... maybe on displayport

Thank you, which driver works best? Is the 16.1.1 I have now fine? I'll give it a go. So is the only thing I need to do is edit the registry and restart and it should work?

    What's the location of ModeTimingOverrides?

I couldn't find ModeTimingOverrides, however I find BestViewOption_HDMI... changed it .. didn't work but I probably put in the wrong spot or something... I have no guidance as to where exactly the edit needs to go and what exact driver needs to be used...

I'd like to get 4k on Radeon Crimson Edition drivers... rather than Catalyst Control Center... Unless Catalyst is the only way it can work...? Which driver are you using at the moment and do you have 4k working?

yes, use 16.1.1 because it is the most recent.. you have the location in the reg file,
if by any case you can't get 4k to woek with 16.1 use 15.11 beta

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000\DAL2_DATA__2_0\Common\EDID_C41_C084]

I can DDU and uninstall these drivers and reinstall... without patching the atikmdag.sys and all that if it's not needed? Can I just install and use Hawai.cmd or the .reg file to add them to the registry? I'm on win10 x64... is it different?

Only display info is here but I searched for ModeTimingOverrides & regedit just froze up... as you can see Common has no folders within it... Should I just reinstall the 16.1.1? Or does it not exist on Windows 10.. as you guy's are using Windows 7?

you must enable VSR, then the folder will appear, edid of your monitor, i hope...
    no i'm on windows 10
don't forget to disable driver signature enforcement, and you must copy the atikmdag.sys after installing drivers
