The primary Kaby Lake CPUs in the form of the 7600 and 7700 series have been released last week (and took most aattention), there also have been a number of Pentium processors launched, as it now seem...

Until the quad-core with HT goes down to the $250 range, and the $325 price-point is a hex-core with HT...meh.

AMD's new stuff will all have HT right? If so this is just intel covering their behinds. Hopefully there's more to come on the.. high end of things.

    If they're six-core, they don't need HT.

    But they'll probably still have a HT-equivalent.

So Pentium´s are going to have HT while i3/5 won´t?...:3eyes:

Isn't the i3, Pentium with HT? Is Intel's plan to make all of their CPUs the same performance to see if marketing sells more than performance/price?

i3's have Hyperthreading. Dual core with HT.

i5's do not have Hyperthreading, but have 4 physical cores. Quad core without HT.

My guess without looking at specs, the Pentium's still lack as much cache and do not have a turbo speed.

    Won't this cannibalize i3's?

Hopefully this is a move towards:

    pentium 2 + 2
    i3 4
    i5 4 + 4
    i7 6/8/12 + 6/8/12

... but again, we're talking about a company that released something like Kaby Lake :bang:

    Couldnt agree more.

One of these cheap pentiums with HT could be good for a cheap 4k HTPC.
Drop a GTX 950 or RX 460 in it with this.

MY HTPC is old as hell. Not used for gaming, only steam game streaming and 1080p movies.

Oh snap I did not expect to see this! I had the G3258 and I must say those little suckers rock! This is going to be a very exciting year I think from both camps, let the games begin!

Why would they do this unless they have something to fear in that segment? And more importantly, what could that be? None of AMD's offerings fit it.

Hmm, with the price of these I'm rather intrigued. Not for myself personally, but these might be a good option for the majority of family/friends/etc... that ask for help with a new PC.

The i3 7350k is a 2c/4t but with overclocking, non k i3's the 7100 has a 3.9ghz base clock but no OC ability and the pentium's are going to be 3.5-3.7ghz base clock and one less mb cache.

So intel's strategy is pay twice as much for an i3 with a 0.4 ghz higher clock and an extra mb of cache...

That took them some time. Nice to see HT on cheap processors.

Just when Intel's name scheme was already confusing, it just got a whole lot worse. If this applies to laptops too, then pretty much every single series Intel has except Celeron will have at least one CPU with 4 threads.

It's weird - Intel claims that one of their primary focuses lately is to reduce power consumption, and yet they allow OCing in i3s and add HT to Pentiums, both of which increase wattage.

I think what Intel should have done was remove a core from Celeron chips and add HT. That way, they stick with their efficiency agenda, no products get obsoleted/redundant, and it becomes a sort of pattern:
Atom - Up to 4 threads, no HT
Celeron - 2 threads, with HT
Pentium - 2 threads, no HT
    i3 - 4 threads, with HT
    i5 - 4-6 threads, no HT
    i7 - 8+ threads, with HT
    i9? - 8+ threads, no HT

So why would intel do this , the new i3 k cpu has a dumb high price , like for real to sell a dual core for 180e in 2017 , does intel not care about ryzen ? did they manage to grab a sample from somwere and they find out the IPC is low compare to intel , or they just dont care becouse intel fans buy intel no matter what? i am just curious that's all :D
