    Hi guys,

It’s been long since I came to guru3d forum I was a regular from 2007 – 2009 now I am a bit out of touch, got 2 kids and work. So very little time for computer and Gaming.

I request you people to suggest me that on a side grade option. Few days ago my monitor broke down, IT was an LG 22” 1080P IPS monitor with 60hz Refresh rate. Now they replace the monitor with LG MP68VQ-P.

    http://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-22MP68VQ-P

Now this monitor got Freesync capability with 40 – 75 hz.
This give me an idea to swap my current GPU MSI Armor X2 OC GTX 970 to RX 480 4gb (or GTX1060). I was just wondering if it’s wise to swap the card? As the performance gain will be negligible I will only find the improvement in DX12 titles. I have no issues with my GTX970, quite fine with it. I am looking forward for RX 480 as I wanted to try the freesync technology. As my monitor is capable I wanted to see that if that makes any difference in gaming experience.

On the other hand, GTX 1060 is 15 – 20% improvement from GTX 970 in most cases. That’s not bad for $ 60 investments. As GTX 1060 3 gb is much more power efficient and bit silent.

If I sell my card and just add another $ 60. Both swap cost me almost same money. Upgrading to 1070 is not possible so out of question same as waiting for RX 490.

All I ask is it justifiable to change from GTX 970 to RX 480 4 gb. Or I can also change to Zotech GTX 1060 3gb mini . Please help and guide me.

    Best regards RS-X

    Do not upgrade GTX970 for 1080 reso @ 75hz.

All you need is to get 75fps in games to match monitor performance. 970 is more than capable of doing it. Maybe in some games you have to set to very high instead of ultra.

There many other useful ways of investing $60.

Forget about 1060 3gb, it has even lower amount of Vram than your 970.

Keep your card and keep saving for RX490 (incoming) or gtx1070.

It's crap. The 3GB has less VRAM and less CUDA cores than the 6GB. Wait for 490 or pick up a 1070 (they can be had for around $400 in the states).

1070 won’t be easy for me. Let me explain the price condition of GPU in my country
    Cheapest Price
    GTX 1070 cost $ 585
    GTX 1060 6gb $ 327
    GTX 1060 3gb $ 274

    RX 480 8 GB $ 352
    RX 480 4 GB $ 276

You see The price of GTX1060 3 gb and RX 480 4 gb is only is near to my price range. I don’t live in US or in Europe. The best will be I better wait till the next gen of cards
example RX 580 or GTX 1160. Thanks for all of your help and support.

Do you have to pay a customs or import tax if you ordered it internationally? I checked the price of shipping from the US to Bangladesh, and while expensive, it's still cheaper then the prices you listed.

Neither 480 or 1060 are worth upgrading to.

    This....

The 3GB GTX1060 would be an utter waste of money. It's not worth spending the money on an RX-480 just to get FreeSync. At this point, either save up for a GTX1070, wait for the RX-490 or hold off for another generation.

WAIT Until 1060 Ti comes out then get that. At that time it will be cheaper too like 250 bucks or so. gl

There probably wont be a 1060 ti just like last few nvidia gen cards. Nvidia kinda got rid of it in mid segment and left only in high.

With the 3GB GTX1060 being a cut down version of the 6GB GTX1060, there really isn't a need for a Ti model. The 6GB model already occupies that slot.

Rx 480 4GB and the 1060 3GB are a step backward. GTX 970 is already on the ball park performance of a Rx480 8Gb and the 1060 6GB as long VRAM isn't a bottleneck. You'll see little improvement, like 10 frames here and there tops. Only game that might see an ok boost is Forza Horizon 3 - you can play with a bit higher settings. A (very) few others as well.

Perhaps saving until AMD Vega is out could be the way. I've been tempted to upgrade my GTX 970 before for the said cards, but after researching, the price isn't justifiable for me.
