Get 1080gtx is has that extra boost.

1070 OC won't help match it, in some cases OC'ed 980ti comes closer to 1080gtx.

I have the same card and mine is Samsung. I got mine from the second batch at ocuk.

GTX1080 uses Micron GDDR5X. This issue only affects GTX1070 that are using Micron GDDR5 instead of Samsung.

I guess i am lucky because as soon as the GTX 1070 was available i ordered one straight away.
I read that the GTX 1070 had a very high demand and they ran out of Samsung memory and used Micron.
BTW my mem is fully stable at +800 9.632ghz effective and don't have any issues at all.

I set it to +500 for the heck of it in MSI AB and it straight away gave me a checkered pattern upon launch of ROTR. +300Mhz worked fine. I haven't bothered to test frequencies in between though. Can't say I feel like I'm missing out, I've always had terrible luck with VRAM overclocking. I would've liked Samsung VRAM I guess?

You're not missing out on anything.I'm still trying to work out a standard base formula for gaming so oc'ing is only until.Memory oc is only for benchmarks imo, gaming unless at above 1440p I can see it making a difference.

How high does the core go btw? In MSI AB it shows a peak of 1974 MHz in demanding games like ROTR.

1974 Mhz is good. The one i have boosts 2012 mhz, can only add +75 Mhz to core but it's enough.Back testing GTA 5 at DSR 3840x2160 with no oc added.Only pwr./temp target maxed so it don't throttle, using AB+RTSS 40 fps limit with Adaptive Half Refresh on this 60 Hz and it's totally smooth. The environment effects and camera panning tend to not look like 30 fps this way.

It's the only way for me to get completely smoothed out frames across the entire map and original version of BSI, when loading into new areas.

Here a MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X with Samsung memory so I guess I was lucky.
I can overclock the memory to +850/900 (never went to 900 I believe) but I now have it on +500.
I noticed I can core clock it a little bit higher when the memory clock is lower.
If I leave it at 800 it will stutter/freezes at higher core clock.

Ok guys, we have more information now. It would seem this problem affects MSI products as well as other vendors and most reports of failure are from the Chinese market right now. International cards made in Taiwan with Samsung memory are not affected.

Cards bought from Newegg maybe affected. Read Reddit for more information based on user's cards.

Failure rate of the micron memory cards is said to be 100%, this means it will DEFINATELY fail at some point, especially during demanding usage with boost. Artifacts during overclocking can be a sign of eventual failure.

Thanks to Kusel on steam who made me aware of this problem.

A recall is hinted at, but, can't confirm yet.

Anyone know if the memory issue affects the 1060 cards? Was planning on picking up the MSI Gaming X but now I'm not so sure.

Haven't heard any reports about it but the Micron issue was only in a few batches from the look of it as a lot of people have Samsung. You can try your luck.

So it's been little over 4 weeks now since i replace the MX-4 with NT-H1.

The temps still havn't passed 50C with Noctua NT-H1.

This Arctic MX-4 stinks for sure!
