I have noticed somewhat confusing/incorrect specs for the PCIE slots. how can they say that the board has 4 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 slots and then in parenthesis say (single at x16, dual at x16/x16, triple at x16/x16/x8, quintuple at x8/x8/x8/x8/x8 mode) *1 It only has 2 16x slots not 4!!!!!!! Look at the image of the back of my board I posted and see that there are only 2 16x slots on the board, 3 8x and 1 1x Official specs are: 40-Lane CPU- 4 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (single at x16, dual at x16/x16, triple at x16/x16/x8, quintuple at x8/x8/x8/x8/x8 mode) *1 28-Lane CPU- 3 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16, x16/x8, x8/x8/x8) *2 28-Lane CPU- 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x1 mode) 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (max at x4 mode) *3 1 x PCIe 2.0 x1
I am not going to run more than 2 video cards so I'm not too concerned about this. I just don't like how ASUS is writing the descriptions of the pcie slots and I think it's misleading.
Hi, Sorry to bump this thread but what's so hard to understand when the description says CPU 40 lanes? Plus they stated that if you go 3-way SLI, third card will only benefit X8. Not only they're not giving us false spec informations but it is the same thing for every motherboard having more than 3 PCIe slots. The ROG - RAMPAGE V EDITION 10 has 40 lanes, so does the MSI X99A GODLIKE GAMING CARBON, the X99-A II, the X99 SABERTOOTH and all the new X99 motherboards, basically. Now what you need to understand is the reason all PCIe slots have similar lenghts is purely "cosmetic". You wouldn't want your third video card to be half connected to the slot and the other half in thin air. Good day.
I am talking about the actual amount of pins. Only 2 slots are full the others are not but on the other side all are full except 1. That is like BMW having a dual exhaust muffler but only one outlet. It's just for looks and no functionality of the real thing.
What they said is all correct. 4x 16x sized slots. Physical 16x slots, there are 4/5 of them. You can't put a video card into a real 8x slot. No where do they mention that all slots will run at 16x speeds, in fact they specifically said the size and the rated lanes available for each slot. Don't see how this is confusing.
