The error is that now matter how I tried to get (multiple) AMD drivers to install, nothing would change the 'ms compatibility driver' that appeared after I had used DDU. I tried every method of installation, including manually removing the ms driver in safe mode. Nothing would allow me to install the drivers, like I had a different brand of card in the PC. Since reverting with system restore, everything is fine including updating drivers in crimson, however I have not used DDU since.

I will get the logs for you, I might have to force the situation again.

Thanks, I'll wait for the logs and give info after.

If the problem happens again (if you have to force the situation again). I would be interested to know the error message and code from device manager when you try to install the driver from there.

    Quick Question

Trying to help a friend out who has switched to an NVidia card on win10 pro. He had removed the amd drivers from add/remove programs , rebooted and loaded the NVidia drivers . The card appears to be working fine but the Radeon Settings still shows up in hidden icon taskbar section , CCleaner didn't fix it and I didn't want to mess anything up by running DDU unnecessarily.
    Thanks

Since you want to avoid DDU, here is a little tool that will help you find the source for starting the Radeon settings and it will give the location it is installed too.

Thanks for the link to the tool. Not that avoiding DDU was paramount it's just that it is quite powerful in the hands of the inexperienced using it :)

    Recommended usage:
-The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best.
-Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe).
-It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues.

Need to Reverse Display Driver Uninstall

    Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) V17.0.0.0

Thought it would cure BOSD - did not.

How do I reverse this to get Windows Updates to the display driver back?

Hi Wagnard, First off let me express my gratitude for making this great program!
Unfortunately I've run into a bit of a problem. The issue i'm having is my drivers keep auto updating after I accidentally clicked the set to default button. Is there a way to get the option to prevent it from happening pop up again? I have tried reinstalling ddu and haven't gotten the popup to disable auto updates yet.

    Any help is appreciated! Cheers.

Easiest way is to run a cleanUP run again. The option is not set when DDU startup but when it Cleans.

I've been having an issue with DDU lately. I always opt to restart in safe mode and then do a clean and restart. Typically I am able to start installing my new driver from there, but lately the installer will fail saying the new hardware installer is already open. Moments later I will get a message in the Action Center saying I need to reboot for the changes to take effect. The only way I've been able to get around this is to disable my network adapter before starting the process. I'm not sure if Windows is downloading the driver on the fly upon reboot from DDU doing the uninstall, or if it has a driver cached somewhere that it just keeps reinstalling.

I've been using DDU for a year or so and have never had this problem, so I'm hoping someone will have a solution! I should mention that was using a Gigabyte 1070 Windforce and was having issue with it, so I swapped it for an EVGA 1070 FTW. Only when I switched over to the new EVGA card did I start experiencing this issue. I initially tried using the "clean and shutdown" option for new cards, but it didn't work so I've been using the restart method ever since.

    Thanks for any help!

Probably Windows downloading / installing the driver in the background when you were installing your driver.
It's not something I can control a lot with DDU sadly.
I guess you were just somewhat unlucky it happened at the same time.
