Working at 8x speed. Tried 2 version of bios. No luck. I know about 1-2% difference, but I want to know what is wrong. My board, card or PSU. Also talked with ASUS support. 1 mail per day and the problem is not solved. here is a pic:
So you checked this when your card is doing nothing? Or when you were gaming. Since it goes down all the way to gen 1 when not doing anything.
Should be 16x and 16x on both cpuz and gpuz. Idle. Maybe you need a bios update for your motherboard, or you did that and need to go back to your older bios? Have you tried the second pcie slot? It's also 16x although pcie 2.0. And yes, you can try running furmark in its own window and monitor if your board kicks up the 8x to 16x. While this should not be the case, it could be with your motherboard. Don't know about your motherboard bios, but check the pcie settings you got in there, maybe one is set wrong. Maybe one is set at auto, and should be manually set? Autodetect isn't always perfect on asus boards.
Click the '?' to the right of the Bus Interface section in GPU-z. It will do a render test. What does the Bus Interface section say when the test is running?
Tried everything. It's MB. It's cheap POS which can't handle 290X at 16X. ASUS representative recommend to RMA it. Could be faulty. BTW, tried 8500GT on PCIE and it works at 16X :bang: And here is a pic
8X 3.0 is the same as 16x 2.0 bandwith. But still should be running at 16x 3.0. 8500 GT is 16x 1.0 and should reflect that when running it. My R9 280 idle. It drops to 1.0 but sometimes goes to 2.0 because of 3 monitors hooked up. My R9 280 idle. My R9 290's did this as well. It has to be your board.
