I hope no one is surprised when the 480 is close to a GTX 970. The whole point is that it's VR-Ready for $200. Leaks show it being close to a stock 970, but it's also cheaper. Sadly it apparently requires 150W though. There were rumors that it would only require 100W. It's fantastic that a $200 card will be able to max most things out today at 1080p, including Witcher 3 and GTAV. A few years ago (hell even last gen, just look at the GTX 960) could hardly do that, usually do to lower vRAM.
If the card is benched with new drivers (not 16.6.1) then should be great,if not then lets wait the new drivers. As always we have to wait new drivers in time. 100-150W TDP dont matter, under 175W its great.
I think that's why people want Hilbert's review. Actually following NDA=ensuring that he has proper information/drivers before benchmarking. This is also why leaks should be taken with a grain of salt...
I want to see HH's power usage RX 480 stock will be faster then stock 970 that much is clear. It won't be as fast as aftermarket 970's with core upwards 1300+. If it does not oc it does not oc and it will be a decently fast card for little money.
The 1070/1080 couldn't overclock well. New archetecture/nm size and whatnot. If the 480 could overclock like a 970 while matching stock speeds, it would sell amazingly well. I doubt that, however.
I am waiting for 490 or whatever not replacing this with 480. I doubt it also mainly because I haven't seen good overclocker from amd since 7xxx series.
Im interested about the price really, if in EUR it will be close to 970's. (€238,50 for EVGA 970 OC ACX 2.0 for instance). I hope a 2 year old card wont be the better choice still that would really be painfull.
Well 970's here are at cheapest 279 and used go for 250. It should be similarly priced tho. 230€ = 199$ should be the price for 4gb model but it will be higher. And 8gb model should be 260-270€ but it will be higher most likely, new things and all.. And well soon no 970's to get.
Sorry folks, this is not a bash thread. Please refrain from trolling anymore, or there will be more infractions.
Arguing your purchase(970) like that is very smart! 91C on load, man, my 290X on load stays at 94, but it eats almost 300w From where is that?
If that 80-90C is correct, then wait for custom cards.Because will be much better, stability matter even on some high price.
Yeah my 290x was doing 94 celsius on a msi gaming cooler T_T I know the rx 480 custom cards will be whole a lot cooler tho. I wouldn't be surprised if the card throttles all around.
Is it cheaper than £207? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CJBaZ9V2Eo It should be, seeing as it's slower. Now if you overclock, the 970 is on another level, think faster than stock 980.
before the end of the year. Thats how long you can redeem If the reviews are true, i would never get a 480 over a 970. 970 has less heat / noise and is a way better overclocker. Waiting for HH to publish the review to verify VR ready is as basic as it sounds. it can play it, but the experience must be pretty bad. I do think its the best AMD can do though, so in that pov its a pretty great card.
